My wife and I went to Tess for a weeknight dinner. It's not our first time, so we had a pretty good idea what to expect. It was a nice evening, so we sat on the patio and enjoyed the weather. There are some rather large tomato bushes and other herbs growing right next to the tables, which adds a pleasant touch. Our server brought the usual things and told us about the specials, then came back with some nice fresh-baked bread and olive oil. We started with the special soup, a broccoli cream with browned basil leaves, and a spinach and feta salad. Both of these were nicely done and a cut above the average. We decided to split a cioppino for the main course, and I had a glass of shiraz to go with it. The cioppino is made with marinara sauce, so it's a bit thicker than the usual tomato broth and the flavors are a bit simpler, but it was still really tasty and the seafood was tender and well-cooked. We skipped dessert, as we were relatively full from the meal.
A $10 coupon from City Tins helped keep the price in control, so overall, it was a good bargain.
This is one of our favorites for a nicely fixed meal in a nice environment. Others must agree, as the tables started filling up as we sat and ate.
The owner makes sure you were happy, and asked how things went as we left. I am sure that any problems we might have had would have been resolved easily.
