The Wiener Schnitzel was excellent as was the Goose Shannk. The Spatzle was very authentic. Several German beers and German style Milwaukee home brews as well to round out the meal. Very family oriented place.

Our experience at Ratzsch's could not have been better. The food was absolutely delicious. We had a table of 7 of every plate was wonderful.
Can't wait to return. I recommended this restaurant to our group and not one disappointment.

Karl Ratzsch's is German old school~ dark wood, beer steins, European wait staff, and a classic menu of schnitzel, goose, duck, and roast meat. Had the goose/duck combo and it was excellent. Washed it down with a stein (or two) of Spaten and you can believe you're in Munich. Easy to see why this place is a Milwaukee institution.

First off, the restaurant is more than 100 years old, and you must see it just for the decor, both outside and inside. It is as German as it can be, with dark timber beams, wood carvings, ceramic decorations, antlers, romantic paintings, etc. Our appetizer was chicken liver pate - it tasted exactly like my old Jewish grandma did it. Meat balls with cheese gravy were great, too. Then we had an assortment of goose breast, wiener schnitzel, octoberfest strudel, spatzle, and red cabbage. The portion was so big, the two of us could not handle it. Everything was absolutely perfect: goose - tender and not fatty at all; strudel - potato and sauerkraut baked with cheese - fantastic; sauerkraut and red cabbage - lacy thin and crisp. It sounds heavy, but for some reasons it did not feel this way at all! The only drawback was apple pie for desert - too wet, not well baked, and the dough chewy. Perfect service by waitresses in national costumes. On a busy night better get a reservation. They have valet parking for $5.

We've been coming here for over 40 years. The decor is unchanged, a priceless collection of German, mostly Bavarian artifacts and the menu has kept pace. There still are several reliable classic German dishes sprinkled in with the more modern, even vegetarian meals that are very good. My wife had the goose, she said it was one of the best she ever had, my sister had a vegetarian dish that she thought was excellent, I had the rouladen, while not as good as I've had in Germany was still very good. We all had beers from local breweries in Milwaukee, Lakefront and Sprecher, those complement the meal very well. We were undecided about dessert but the three of us shared one cherry strudel and one apple strudel that was unbelievable tasty and more than we could eat. Prices were reasonable, portion size was more than ample and everything was tasty and the service was great. Even though we left Wisconsin almost 40 years ago we still keep coming back here whenever we are in Milwaukee. It is the best German restaurant in Milwaukee.
