“THE place for German”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2013

On this my first time in Milwaukee I did the research and found very good reviews for Karl Ratzsch's. No doubt. It was wonderful from atmosphere to service to food. The sauerbraten was truly the best I've ever had — except, of course, for my German mother-in-law's. And, the price was right. We made reservations for the early bird special on Friday night. With or without a special price, I will be back. A must for German food lovers, and others since the menu offered other choices as well.

“Good German food in a quaint atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2013

We are overall very satisfied with the food. We had for starters onion rings (way above what you get in fast food) and the beer cheese sauerkraut dip which is really exceptional (it looks like french onion soup but much thicker/richer). We then had goose shank (taste like french goose confit) and baked pork shank (a daily special). Both were really tasty. The pork shank is so big that you could share it among two people (or don't take starters). The weiss beer franciskaner is really lovely, light and tasty.
The staff is very friendly. The check is a bit on the high side (entrees are about $30)

“A great Saturday lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

We were meeting friends in the Milwaukee area and wanted to take them a landmark in the city. This place certainly doesn't disappoint. The food is always good and so is the atmosphere. One of the unexpected treasures was our waiter Dennis. He has been with this establishment as well as other fine dining spots in the area for years. He knows how to be polite, friendly and polished all at the same time, which by the way is tough to do. You cannot go wrong picking this restaurant for a casual or elegant dining experience.

“Great German place.”

One of the last really great old German places left here in this one-time German haven. Excellent authentic Kraut food. Makes you want to run out and find a place to polka...........

“Warm, cozy, good food and beer”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 7, 2013

Went inside for a late lunch (it's almost 2pm and most of the restaurants are closed?) and they are willing to accommodate us. The decor and atmosphere gives off the German feel and cozy. The waitstaff is extremely friendly even though we are their last customers.
They have a lunch menu so the prices are very reasonable. The sausages are so good that I would not share. The local beer they recommended hit the spot.
Highly recommended.
