“Good food, but unbearably loud”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

This was our first time at Odd Duck and the two of us ordered 3 small vegetarian plates each. All were interesting and good to very good. Our waiter was helpful and service was excellent overall. At $95 (including tip) for 6 small plates and a bottle of decent wine, the price was very reasonable. For us, unhappily, all of these good things were overshadowed by the almost incredible noisiness of the place. I gave up expecting quiet in restaurants years ago, but this was something else. It was a Saturday night with all tables filled, but even so.... It was impossible to carry on a conversation without shouting across our table for two. The music didn't help.

“Wow - really, wow!”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

There is nothing odd about the Odd Duck.

This place truly rocks. From the understated decor and kitschy atmosphere to the kindness and warmth of the servers - this is one of the best kept secrets of the Milwaukee metro area. In fact, I would travel back to Milwaukee just to eat here again.

We went on a Thursday night with no reservations (I was told that "no one needs reservations in Milwaukee") - well, that was a bad idea. However, our "bad idea" quickly morphed into a really great experience. We sat at the bar and had a wonderful time interacting with our fellow guests and a fantastic bartender by the name of Mike.

The food is off the charts good (although I would like to have the food staged in a little slower manner - as we ordered a number of dishes that all showed up at the same time; NB: If you order multiple plates - ask the server to stage the courses to give you more time to enjoy the full flavors of the plates). The dates wrapped in bacon are not a unique menu item - but were a grand-slam home run. Sweet and savory - without being over-bearing.

The dishes were really clever. A great example was the use of Asian flavors and old world technique in a "Korean Pancake." Another favorite was the duck confit. I love duck - but it is rarely cooked in a way that leaves you wanting for more. The duck at Odd Duck was spectacular!

My parting shot - please, please, people of Milwaukee . . . eat at the Odd Duck. Keep this place open. Let me enjoy another wonderful meal at the bar with Mike.

“New favorite restaurant”

Great, creative small plates. We have gone twice and ordered probably ten different things from the menu and every one was delicious. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the constantly changing menu. Highly recommend!

“Great food, great service, a little loud”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

We went on Friday night on a whim without reservations. We were seated almost immediately at the bar, which was fine for just the two of us. Any bigger of a group, I would suggest a table. The bartenders were prompt, friendly and very knowlegable of the menu. We asked people next to us what they like, since they have been there before and they said that the menu changes every day so to ask the bartenders and believe them... so we did and were pleasantly surprised. Things with ingredients we wouldn't ordinarily order, were put together to make great dishes. We will definiltely go back and definitely recommend.
