“Very interesting and informative”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

Our guide was very informative and seemed really enthusiastic about her job. The home is fascinating--it's really neat that it managed to be so well preserved. Being as it's a work in progress, it will be interesting to visit again a few years from now to see what restoration has been completed.

Don't be weirded out if you arrive for the first tour of the day (10 a.m.) and the place is still locked up tighter than a drum. Heaven forfend that the gift shop be open for ticket sales before the hour.

“Informative tour, excellent restoration”
Reviewed June 10, 2013

The tour docent was incredibly knowledgeable of the house and family and the house itself is beautifully preserved and restored without being stuffy. The restoration continues on the second floor, but they are doing things right -- slowly and from actual photos of the original furnishings. Nevertheless, there's plenty to look at. Our tour lasted the full hour and involves standing the entire time -- if you are unable to stand the full time and need to sit, they can direct you to chairs set up for the purpose.

“Soak in the Ambiance of this Victorian Beer Baron's Home”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

A beautiful house museum of the Pabst (beer) family located on what used to be rich man's row in Milwaukee. This house is wonderfully preserved, thankfully after the family had to sell up the Milwaukee Catholic Diocese took it over and other than painting all of the original stunning woodwork white, did not do anything to destroy the rooms or craftsmanship. Pitty the poor restorers who must have spent thousands of hours stripping white paint from it. Beautifully furnished in the Victorian tradition with lots of German immigrant touches, the small docent led tours are informative and well presented. The fee is low, there is sufficient parking. There are no outbuildings left but you can see both the kitchen/pantry areas and the rich familys' quarters with many special touches.

“Educational, informative glimpse at history”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

This was a wonderful tour put on by the local historical society, and it truly was the best value for the money. At $9 per person (and you can save a few dollars finding a coupon in some of the local travel books), you'll get a two-hour, well-interpreted home tour by an informed, passionate docent. Loved the history of both the Pabst family, the beer industry of Milwaukee and the home itself. Definitely well worth the time and money.
