Really outstanding gem.
We've seen a few shows here over the past two years and even when the place is jam packed, the show feels like it is just for you.
Dracula was a gigantic show packed into a small stage. Really cool stuff. Sometimes scary sometimes funny sometimes really sexy.
This year we saw a show called Fortune which was a superhero opera with a huge cast and a whole city magically fitting into this tiny playhouse.
Mind blowing and dirt cheap.

I used to go to the Alchemist all the time to see shows when I lived in Milwaukee. I have since moved away but still stop by to see whatever's playing when I come back to visit. The theatre is a smallish 50-seat black box attached to a bar/lounge area, and almost all their stuff is locally-written plays or comedy. They do a lot to support local artists and performers, so they get a lot of the best local talent writing and performing new works. It's consistently great, and usually cheap. Defninitely recommended.

The Alchemist is a great little theatre that specializes in new avant garde pieces and local playwrights. It's a great place to catch edgy, affordable theatre.

Okay, so you're looking for something to do this weekend. Check out the Alchemist Theatre. A smaller venue, to be sure, but they're not afraid to take some chances...and that's what new theater is all about. Yes, you can go see Annie or Joseph and his Coatie-Thing but those will always be there and will probably be about the same. Yeah, they're good but they've also been done a million times.
The Alchemist has shows that are premiers and are by local playwrights. The Alchemist has new-age operas which are the example of why operas don't need to be for classic lovers. The Alchemist has horror shows and Christmas shows that sell out year after year because you're part of a place which chooses to showcase interesting and cutting edge shows.
A gem of a theatre nestled in a small bar-attached location right in the heart of Bay View in Milwaukee. Have dinner down at the Honeypie or up at Cafe Lulu's then come over the Alchemist for drink and a show. You've just created a memory and that's the best night out you can have.

The Alchemist Theatre is a great place to hang out and see some great local talent! With their ever-changing events ranging from improv and sketch comedy, dramatic plays, musicals, to holiday-inspired shows (just to name a few) there's something for everyone. Owners Aaron and Erica constantly reinvent their space to support all types of art and artists--something desperately needed in a community where art/music/theatre programs are getting cut left and right. I have spent countless days and nights at the Alchemist and would recommend it to anyone looking for a little hidden gem in a big city.
