Description: The Rumpus Room is a European style gastro pub in downtown Milwaukee that combines adventurous but approachable, comforting food and one of the best craft beer and cocktail programs in the city. The Rumpus Room offers a laid-back casual dining experience and features a spacious bar, an intimate dining room, a charcuterie area and a separate private event space. The menu emphasizes local, sustainable ingredients whenever possible, and the bar offers more than 20 beers on tap and more than 100 in bottles, plus a craft cocktail menu that changes with the seasons. One of the best restaurants in Milwaukee's lively downtown entertainment district, Rumpus Room frequently welcomes theater-goers before or after a performance at the nearby Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.

“Excellent Eating in Milwaukee”
Reviewed November 28, 2012 via mobile

We walked into a full house and were told the wait for a table would be two hours. However, we found a place to stand and pretty quickly we had four seats at the bar. Not the best place for a foursome, but better than waiting.
We loved the Weihenstephan on draft and ended up working our way through the extensive beer list. This is by far the best beer menu I have seen in Milwaukee. Sorted by beer style, it makes it very easy to zero ink what you are in the mood for. Best of all,the bar uses the correct glassware, has things at the proper temperature and pours the beer correctly. Nice to see they pay attention to the details. All of the guys behind the bar were on top of things and we never waited more than an instant for anything.

We were really impressed with the food. We started with meat and cheese snack plate and the quality was excellent. My main course was quail - it was phenomenal.

The Rumpus Room deserves to be on your must do list for Milwaukee!

“Nice place”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

We had dinner before the symphony and we had plenty of time. Our meal was at a nice pace. Both my husbands salad and my soup were good. My salmon could have been cooked a little more for my taste but it was still good. My husband had chicken that was very moist and flavorful. The atmosphere is nice but I'm not fond of restaurants that have table lined up along a large booth.

“Rumpus Room - Must Love Meat”
Reviewed November 14, 2012

We stopped in here the first week it was open and boy was the food delish! We had the scotch egg which is to die for! A couple weeks ago we stopped by their 1st anniversary pig roast - they cooked a pig in the street right out front and invited local distilleries and breweries in for samples. The atmosphere is great, the food is on par for a Bartalotta restaurant, and the location can't be beat. Stop by!

“Gear venue - but ...”
Reviewed October 14, 2012 via mobile

Went to the rumpus room for dinner after seeing a play. We got there early but they were able to seat us right away. The restaurant is very loud so it is hard to communicate with the people at your table. The service was really good But the menu left much to be desired. The selections were generally disappointing. The portions were fine But when we were done dining It felt like something was missing. I doubt that I will return.

“Interesting and tasty”
Reviewed October 9, 2012

This gastro pub is fairly meat heavy, and is probably better as a launching point for drinks/starters or a late night snack. The pretzel (and cheese mustard) were great, the range of charcuturie interesting (the bacon jam was tasty, of a bit much to split for just two people). Our table also tried the duck crepes and gnocchi -- both great -- but most liked the smores themed dessert.
