Milwaukee is an easy day trip for us, so we're frequent visitors. We found Thief Wine Shop and Bar several months ago when they offered a Groupon. Since they had two locations, we bought two and visited both within a few months of each other.
As it was on our way to our final destination we visited the Shorewood location first, and while they have the same great collection of wine as the downtown store, an attractive space and a nifty wine storage/pouring system behind the bar, the woman working there was completely unpleasant, unwelcoming and not helpful--not just with us, but with everyone there. We won't return to this location.
Given our first experience, we weren't quite sure what to expect from the location in the Public Market, but gave it a shot. Boy, what a difference a friendly, helpful staff person makes!
As expected, this location also has an incredible selection of ever-changing wines which you can purchase by the glass. We chose to sample several of their offerings via ordering flights--everything we tasted was just delightful.
The service was top notch, and the location in the Market was vibrant and fun, with an abundance of people watching opportunities.
They also serve light snacks, but we didn't partake. Parking was tight, but we found a meter with little difficulty.
This is a gem of a place in a great location to which we already have plans to return. We'd very highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys trying new wines in a bustling, fun atmosphere.
