Good value compared to other hotels in Milwaukee. Beds were extremely comfortable. Nice staff. Rooms nice, small bathroom. Area driving in from downtown nice. Area just towards miller park not so nice. We did eat across street at chain restaurant without feeling scared.

We booked this hotel thru Hotwire, so we had no chance to look up reviews ahead of time. I felt mild buyers remorse when I started reading reviews. Eeek! What kind of place was this?

Quiet, clean with good service is what.

First off: Location: Urban neighborhood that is decidedly a little transitional. It is on the western edge of the Marquette campus so to the east, you have Marquette, the ribbon of 43/94 and then the lakefront. To the east is a neighborhood that has fallen, I'm assuming like many have, due to the economy. Boarded up places abound. Unfortunately that is true just about anywhere these days. At no time did I feel unsafe.

And it turned out (for us) to be a perfect location. Less than 10 minutes to a number of places, including the casino, the ball park, downtown, the art museum and the public market. Maybe 20 to the State Fair Grounds in West Allis.

The lobby and restaurant area are really nice. Shiny floors, nicely painted and trimmed woodwork a step beyond what you see at other chain hotels. The desk staff is polite and professional.

Our room was a bit of a disappointment, but that I blame on my lack of experience with Hotwire. The only way it could have been helped had the clerk asked me what type of room I had reserved. So we wound up with a full size bed, which really was ok. We would have preferred a queen or king for sure. Lesson learned for next time with Hotwire. The hotel rate included free parking, which in downtown Chicago would be a 40/night value. In Milwaukee maybe it would be 10/night.

The room was nicely decorated and some touches were more than expected, like the A logo of the hotel on top of the bedboard. While the building is old, nothing in the room looked dated at all. I'm sure more outlets have been added in the refurbishment as that is always a big problem we have in older places. No power strip was necessary tho. The room was clean. No horribly stained sheets or duvets. Sure there were some spots where perhaps there was had been a spill, but nothing gross.

Aveda products, yes, but they were not replaced daily which was my only disappointment. Again, I just expected stuff to reappear with housekeeping as clearly we had used them, but I am not going nuts over an ounce of shampoo or conditioner. LOTS of hot water and good pressure too.

The noise level wasn't bad at all, but we had an end corner room. The building is old brick and we were up on the 7th floor and we could actually fully open the windows. Loved that. Oddly enough the most annoying thing were the seagulls getting lippy at various times of the afternoon.

To make up for a lack of continental breakfast, they have a 7.99 pre buy breakfast you can order the night before for the next morning. You have to pre buy by midnight and use it the next morning, but it included coffee or juice plus a choice of a number of breakfast entrees including steak and eggs. That was the only meal we ate at the hotel. It was a decent value but nothing over the top.

We didn't use the shuttle. The only time we would have been tempted was for the ball game, but we decided to take our own car. It seemed quite popular tho with the Cincinnati people that were their for the ball games. Nice touch of a flavored water of the day at the bell desk.

So we had a 3 day stay. We got home today and I noticed 2 charged for a total of 150 from the hotel. I called about them and it was an issue between the hotel with their rates and hotwire. The person I spoke with was polite and efficient. Figured it out and called me back and of course credited the account.

I have no problem staying at the chains. We usually like Hampton or Best Western. This was a nice change. On a 5 star scale I'd give em a 3.5 to 4. On a 4 star it would be a 3.5. We'd definitely stay here again.

The Art Deco lobby, restaurant, and elevator doors are stunning. The staff gets high marks for being welcoming and helpful. Our room was spacious and the bed extremely comfortable! The tiny closet with only 4 hangers and a door that was spring-loaded to close unless you held it open was a major annoyance. The bathroom was small and out-of-date, although there was a second vanity sink with much more space. The hotel provided us with a special rate as alumni of Marquette University in town for the reunion festivities, so that made it a good value. The food in the beautiful restaurant off the lobby was excellent and the bar across the lobby will be remembered for the best brandy alexander I've ever had.

This was a great hotel. Lots of character...shuttle service every hour (suggestion from front desk to sign up). Room was very spacious. Food was very good and reasonable even without the coupons. Only negative, not sure how far to walk at night. Close to Miller Park. We will stay again

The hotel was old but charming, deco style. The room was elegant and the bed was so comfy that it felt like we were floating on a cloud. It was in a good location to go see a baseball game at Miller Park.

We enjoyed our stay at the Ambassador Hotel. The shuttle service was great and the drivers were friendly and helpful. The room was clean. The only complaint that I have is that the air conditioning couln't keep up with the heat- but it was 90-100 outside.
