Stayed here in late July 2013. The hotel is located in the center of downtown Milwaukee, beside the river, right on the Riverwalk. It's within walking distance of 3rd ward just a few minutes across the river as well as other bars and restaurants in the area such as John Hawks Pub.
The lakeshore and Lakeshore State Park are about 8 or 9 blocks away, 15-20 minutes walk. You can find some nice running and cycling around there. The Riverwalk is also good for a run. There is some really great architecture in downtown Milwaukee so a walk/run to lake is very interesting.
The hotel is housed in the old Marshall Fields department store building so the rooms all have extremely high ceilings, it looked like they were about 20 feet high. There are also very large windows from about 4 feet above the floor right to the ceiling. Lot's of light.
The rooms are a decent size. We stayed in a king studio and it was good for 2 but with a third person it would have felt cramped. The ceiling height makes the rooms feel larger.
The interior is nicely done. They just renovated and had granite counter tops, large flat screen TV and comfortable beds.
They have underground parking attached to the building at $17 a night with in/out. It's a bit awkward to get to since it's shared parking with the other businesses in the building so you have to get the elevator to the lobby, go out of the hotel lobby into the common area lobby of the building and get another elevator or stairs down to the garage. Its still pretty good though, at least you don't have to go outside if it's raining.
There is a free hot and cold buffet breakfast. In my option better than the usual Residence Inn breakfast, and I've stayed in a lot of them.
I would definitely stay her again.
