“Solid Steakhouse with a Menu to Satisfy Just About Anyone”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

Dined here with 6 colleagues and clients in late May 2013. The space, decor and service all get high marks. While beef is certainly the big selling point here, the menu was broad enough to satisfy almost any appetite and taste, with several "non-meat" dishes including several great seafood options. The wine list and cocktail list were expansive and also seem to satisfy just about any palate.

Service was very, very good. My only constructive criticism was that the beef, while good, wasn't the most flavorfull I've had. I expected a little better for a midwestern steakhouse, though I admit that I didn't have the prime rib but chose the ribeye instead. Still, I was anticipating more flavor.

If you are a little adventuresome, I highly recommend the maple old fashioned cocktail. I was pleasantly surprised by the tastiness of that drink. Good maple flavor without being too sweet or overpowering.

“If you like meat, this is the place”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

A great place for a fine dinner out. The decor is modern classic - spare, rather formal, quiet. They have a good bar, a nice place to gather your group and enjoy a glass of wine or an opening cocktail. The staff is competent, friendly, and knowledgeable about the food and the wine list. Good wine list by the way.

As the name suggests, Ward's is all about the meat. They have a wide selection and they know how to cook it. Side vegetables are rather standard - tasty enough, just not surprising or innovative. No mind - the meat will be just stunning, especially if you've chosen a good bold red wine to accompany. They have some fish and seafood selections as well. Curiously, they've also managed to satisfy my vegetarian friend, pretty amazing for a restaurant devoted to meat.

The cost for all this excellence is up there, but the food is great, and the experience unhurried and rather intimate for this rather large restaurant. For a "want to impress" business dinner or a special occasion meal this is a good choice.

“A nice experience for work”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

I was recently in town for a work school and my company decided to take us to Ward's for dinner and drinks. It was an enjoyable experience meeting new people from all over the country and to meet new home office memners as well. I had the Prime Rib which was cooked to my exact specifications - medium well. It was lean, tender, and very flavorful. The sides and salad were all good as well. Service was excellent and I would recommend it either for business of pleasure.

“Don't overlook it!”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

This is one restaurant I've overlooked in my own backyard. Finally got around to giving it a try. Shouldn't have waited so long. The atmosphere is upscale but still casual. For those that remember the space used to house "Yannis" - another very good restaurant that was often overlooked (hmmm, do I detect a pattern?). Hopefully Ward's won't meet the same demise. We arrived promptly for our 7:45 reservation on a semi-busy Saturday. Asked if we could stop at the bar for a drink first. No problem said the hostess, that will give us time to get you a nice booth by the window. The table was, in fact, just right. And the food was as well. Crab cakes and grilled shrimp for appetizers. Both were very good but the shrimp dish was both good and different. Caesar salads were well prepared. But of course we were there for the prime rib. That night they were running a special -- 12 oz prime rib for $25.00. 12 ounces may not sound like much but trust me, it was just the right size. While most prime ribs taste like the last one you had, Ward's was made special by an outstanding "au jus" -- spicier than the standard. Sides of mashed potatoes and steamed spinach were excellent. Topped it off with a fruit tart. Finished up a good bottle of Sauv. Blanc. Voila. A Great Evening. And reasonably priced.
