“Check out the surrounding area...”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

The hotel is fine, but the surrounding area is why I would stay here again. First, one of the best restaurants in Milwaukee is located in the hotel, the Anchorage. We had a fantastic and reasonably-priced dinner there, and the breakfast buffet on the week-end was also very good. The hotel is just across the river from Estabrook Park, which has tennis courts, a golf course, a running/walking/biking trail, and a pool/water park. We were told the bike trail goes downtown. The best part of the park for us was the beer garden, located in the park about a half mile west of Port Washington Road. This is an authentic German beer garden, with chestnut trees and a view of some falls on the river. Although this hotel is located about ten miles from downtown, it is easy to get downtown by car, bus, or bike. Great location and a pleasant surprise.

Thank you very much for your insights and comments following your stay with us! Many guests praise our unique hotel facility for two primary items.

The first is our location, which places guests in a serene setting along the river banks and adjacent parkways. With Estabrook Park on one side for the trails, activities, and yes, the German-themed 'Biergarten', and Lincoln Park on the other for the 9-hole golfing, a mini-water park, and picnic areas, our guests can enjoy nature in a setting that's still close to local shopping, sightseeing, Milwaukee’s downtown and lakefront districts, and other major social options.

The other is our signature restaurant, The Anchorage, well-known in our nearly 40-year heritage for creative seafood entrées served with fantastic views by an efficient staff, all at very reasonable non-hotel prices! (They also have a separate TripAdvisor listing for your comments as well.)

Glad you found a 'pleasant surprise' for your lodging in Milwaukee! Come back soon!

Nothing about this Hilton property holds up to the Hilton name. More like a Travelodge or Super 8. Musty, moldy smelling rooms, noisy due to thin walls and construction, ho-hum receptionist who don't pay close attention to detail. Don't spend Hilton money on a property that is more like a Days Inn.

Thank you for providing your comments here on Trip Advisor following your recent stay with us. Pro and con, all comments assist us in a continuous effort to provide the best possible setting and service for our guests.

I do apologize for the noise levels, as we cannot fully control the conduct of other guests after hours. What we can control, though, is the professionalism of our staff. And if you felt that they were less than what you expected, I will address that immediately.

Regarding our property?
I would like to clarify a few items in regards to our guestrooms and property conditions, as we have made a variety of recent enhancements to the Hilton Milwaukee River, as well as to our restaurant, The Anchorage.

They have included, but are not limited to items such as new box-springs and mattresses (part of the Hilton approved "Serenity Collection"), new flat-screen TVs, the implementation of a more sophisticated, complimentary WI-FI service, new in-room guest safes, more high-definition TV channel selections, a repaved parking lot, a remodeled indoor pool, a fresh decor to our Lobby, the addition of a gift shop/vending area, and a completely remodeled restaurant in The Anchorage.

More recent completions now showcase new carpeting and wallpaper in all of our guestroom and public access hallways and corridors, upgraded Lobby and Banquet furniture, upgrades to our guestroom bedding, linens, and in-room toiletries.........and lastly new nameplates and guestroom number plaques.

Further projects continue for our Hotel, as we strive to make improvements and enhancements to our property to benefit out guests.

We do hope to welcome you back to our unique Hotel as we make these enhancements!

Nice hotel with comfortable rooms and nice furnishings. From the 5th floor at least the river could only be seen by standing up by the windows. But I think it was quieter on that side than the other. Very upscale toiletry items and lots of hot water very quickly in the bath. I didn't have a rental car so shuttle service to the surrounding area was helpful. Although plenty of options within 2 mile walking distance and I felt comfortable walking in the daylight. Did the bed & breakfast option and buffet is well worth it.

Room Tip: Even number rooms face river.

Thank you for your valued comments!

Many guests do enjoy our unique location, allowing them both relaxing views of the River from most of our hotel rooms and from our restaurant, The Anchorage, as well as being in close proximity to the area's businesses and attractions such as the Bayshore Town Center Mall. Yes, our complimentary shuttle also assists guests in getting to these places.

Glad you also liked the little changes that we have made (i.e. upgraded toiletries and new bed linens) that accent some of our bigger ones (i.e. new flat-screen TVs and new corridor carpeting/wallpaper). All combine to create a great lodging experience for our guests!

Hope to have you stay with us again soon!

A nice hotel stay. Rooms were comfortable and service staff was great. The Anchorage Restaurant within the hotel was superb. I am not really the kind of traveler to return to places I have already seen because I want to experience as much as possible. However, I would definitely come back to Milwaukee and stay at this Hilton and have dinner again at the Anchorage.

Thank you so very much for your comments here about both our Hotel, as well as our award-winning signature restaurant, The Anchorage! Very appreciated!

We pride ourselves on our unique location, a service-oriented staff, and creating a welcoming environment. We are also very proud to feature our restaurant, The Anchorage, celebrating nearly 40 years of dining excellence in the community!

The Anchorage staff works very hard to create unique, affordable, and signature seafood entrees, as well as more traditional bills-of-fare. They also have their own dedicated Trip Advisor listing for direct comments.

I'm excited to read that while you are an adventurous traveler, wanting to experience new things, you also had a fabulous experience here at the Hilton Milwaukee River and specifically The Anchorage, and are planning a return visit!

See you soon!

I left a wireless mouse in my room before I checked out. Although I needed to call them many times to find the right person that was in charge of lost and found, I got my mouse back!! The hotel shipped it to me quickly without charging me for postage.

If you prefer a river view room, choose the even room number. The location of the hotel is 10-15 min from the city center, but it is very close to a big mall.

Thank you very much for your comments about both our Hotel, as well as a combination of our Front Desk and Housekeeping Departments in regards to your "Lost & Found” issue.....all very appreciated!

We are very proud of our levels of customer service, this being a prime example.

I am glad that you also appreciated our unique location that is close enough to Downtown Milwaukee in addition to the north shore/Bayshore Town Center Mall areas.

We do invite you back soon!

Was promised a refrigerator in room. At check in they told me it was in the room. Got to the room, unpacked, went to put almond milk and ice packs in refrigerator and couldn't find it. Called front desk, moved us to an executive suite with a refrigerator built in one floor up. Hallway in rm 317 was loud with children, gap under door, and large koolaid looking stain on carpet. Didn't complain as room was larger. King bed was not stable. We each felt every move of the other. Sheets were not Hilton quality. Air conditioner had a hard time keeping cool ( perhaps b/c of the 1 inch gap at the door?) When called for wake up call, was busy, called from cell phone, no answer. Tried for 1 hour, then set alarm in room and it worked. They were full, so didn't complain. Cocktail hour in lounge is a lovely setting overlooking the river, with complimentary fried chicken, peel off shrimp, nicely done. Staff was wonderful at restaurant too. I would return, but ask for a room on a higher floor at end of hallway. Lastly, tried to call for late check out, but no answer at front desk again. Perhaps it's the phone in 317 ? I would return as the price was good, but would ask for 2 beds, bring earplugs, so hubby and I can get a good night's sleep.

Room Tip: Higher floor away from elevator. Bring ear plugs.

Belated thanks for your comments, suggestions, and insights following your stay with us. Good and bad, they help us be a better hotel facility!

While we are proud to earn your positive comments regarding our Anchorage restaurant’s food quality, their service levels, and our overall hotel amenities, I am equally embarrassed to hear of your less-than-favorable comments.

We did check your phone following your stay and July comments, and did find a technical issue with that phone in Room 317, as well as for some of the surrounding guestroom phones as well. That was immediately corrected by our phone provider. I equally addressed the service issues with our Front Desk staff as well, making personal, corrective changes there too.

We have completed many new enhancements to our property over the past 18 months, from new TVs to new bed linens to new corridor wallpaper and carpeting. But all are slightly lost if we do not back that up with efficient customer service!

I hope that this will not prevent you from making a return visit to our unique Hotel and our signature restaurant, The Anchorage!

Great staff at this location. I had a business trip in the area and stayed one night. My flight the next day was not until later that night, but my meeting was early AM. I asked if i could come back to the hotel after my meeting instead of spending 5+ hours at the airport. The Manager on duty was very understanding of my situation made sure I was taken care of. I really appreciate the staff at this location and how they treat their guests. The little things like this make the difference for us busy business travelers. I recommend this location.

Thank you for your comments following your stay with us, especially as they pertain to our staff!

We have made focused improvements on the 'bigger' items recently, such as select renovations and enhancements to the Hotel and to our restaurant, The Anchorage.

But we also have stressed the 'little' items such as customer service and responsiveness, to which I am pleased to read that you greatly appreciated in your individual situation!

I look forward to welcoming you back again soon!
