Our stay this last weekend was one of the better hotel stays we have ever had! Every time we walked in to the hotel the front desk staff greeted us with a honest and friendly 'hello'. We appreciated the professionalism of all the staff and were impressed that the management was just not directing staff and watching to be sure it got done but was actually helping helping out with opening doors, putting glasses away, checking on tables in the restaurant. All the staff that works at the hotel was the most polite and well mannered that I have ever experienced; they made every guest feel like they were the most important person! The food at The Anchorage was beyond amazing. The breakfast buffet has just about everything you can want on a buffet and on Sunday they included a dessert bar; who does that? It was a great end to our stay to have cheesecake and bread pudding after our breakfast :)
Michael Dietrich, General Manager, is doing a great job at running his hotel! He too went out of his way to make you feel important!
Overall we had a great stay and when we are in the area we will be staying at this hotel again! Highly recommended!

Belated "thanks" for your insights and kind comments following your stay with us!

We are very proud of two of the items that you touched upon.....our dedicated staff members in all areas of the Hotel, and our signature restaurant, The Anchorage. Both elements have been synonymous for our Hotel's success and in earning the compliments from our patrons!

We do hope to continue this positive hospitality and culinary trend, and look forward to your next stay! (And we’ll make sure we have more of that wonderful homemade bread pudding!!!)

The room could have been cleaner. The refrigerator for my medicine didn't arrive, after repeated requests, for 3 days. When it did, it was growing a science experiment. The front staff was neither friendly nor helpful. The hotel has been under "renovation" for 2 years.

Thank you for your comments. Good or bad, the do keep us on track with providing the best possible setting and levels of customer service for our guests.

We do stress a clean and comfortable environment provided by our housekeeping staff. And despite a formal October reply to you from a June comment, I can assure you that when I initials read your notes, that corrective steps were taken. Thankfully, that did include the purchase of new refrigerators as well as increased staff training.

Also addressed were the issues involving our customer service and professionalism at our Front Desk. As shown by other comments here on Trip Advisor, we do receive regular praise on these issues, but we can't be complacent either. I'd like to think that this unfortunate incident was singular, and not the norm.

Our renovation projects are constant here at the Hotel and our restaurant, The Anchorage, as we regularly repair, replace, enhance, and update the facility. From major projects over the last two years like new hallway carpeting and wallpaper to minor ones like upgrading our bathroom toiletries, our Hotel is always looking to improve!

Hope to welcome you back again!

We have stayed at this hotel at least 2 previous times and will return again. It is removed from the downtown area, but is close to the Bayshore Mall and within a short drive of the city centre. We enjoyed the restaurant and the accommodations.

I was pleased that my room (like most of them) was away from the road so traffic noise was not a problem. The air conditioning was also quiet (no loud noises when it started or stopped). The free breakfast was above average but I saw a bill that said $13 for the buffet, which is more than I would pay.

I'm handicapped and my complimentary stay got me a room at the most remote part of the hotel on the river in Milwaukee. The front desk did not acknowledge my honors status, my American Express platium card or my cane which I had laid on top of the counter when signing in. I was given the last room on the third floor and had to walk a block to get there.

Thank you for your comments, to which we would like to respond.

Our Hotel was sold-out the weekend of your stay, and your guest folio only stated that you requested a standard room with two double-beds, which we did provide. Being sold-out, our ability to move rooms at the time of your check-in was quite limited.

We also feature fully-equipped, handicapped accessible rooms for your future consideration, and are able to make notes in advance of any special room requests on your reservation card, but only if they are provided to us in advance. We will then do our best to honor these advance requests.

But please keep in mind that we have limited numbers of rooms, room types, etc., and that by mathematics, once they are filled, we can no longer honor subsequent requests.

Additionally, by current hotel and ADA protocol, our staff can not directly assume, and potentially offend, a guest by making references to their physical abilities, mobility, or condition. We have had guests in the past using canes and walkers that did not require any extra assistance or special room accommodations.

With these clarifications, I do hope to welcome you back to our unique Hotel and restaurant, The Anchorage, under much better terms.

I stayed at this hotel many times between Oct, 2012 and May of this year. Though I do agree with some of the other reviewers that this property could use some updating, it is the staff that gives this hotel an Excellent rating. I can't tell you how many times I had the front door opened for me, got a friendly hello from the front desk clerks, or a hearty welcome back from a waitress. I especially loved the breakfast crew, with a huge shout out to April who was always there with a warm welcome and a funny comment to start my day.

Being a Hilton property, the room had nice furnishings. But the hotel itself was not in a great area, the view of the dirty river with trash and driftwood on the banks was less than appealing. In retrospect, I should have paid a little more and stayed downtown.

Thanks for your comments!

While we can control items such as our room furnishings and high levels of customer service, we cannot control items such as Mother Nature, the water levels of the River, or what may come down stream. For the most part, the river setting offers fantastic views from our Hotel and our restaurant, The Anchorage.

Many other guests thoroughly enjoy our location that is close to the interstate and the shopping/business attractions that are nearby such as the Bayshore Town Center Mall, yet pastoral enough being along the river and not in a typical downtown/urban setting.

We do hope you consider us again for a future Milwaukee-area trip
