Overall value, other than location, was terrible. Way too expensive of a rate for a below average hotel.
The hotel's responses to negative feedback are complete [--]! It's clear that the owner/management has done absolutely nothing to improve the quality of their rooms or service.
Ok, we did not expect the Ritz (or anything close), but we did not expect the level of disrepair, disgustingness, and disrespect that we experienced. As other reviewers have said, the hotel has some general funk - dirty carpets, dust, old decor, weird smells. Our first room had no air (and windows don't open). When we told the desk, the first response was "well, is your room hot?" Well, yes, and stuffy. We were finally put into a new room that did have working air, so fine. When we pulled down the bedding, there was not top sheet. Again, we alerted the desk, and they had a sheet sent up, but we basically had to remake our own bed. As we were making the bed, we found some "special" stains on the throw pillows. I brought them down to the desk, and the manager's only response was "oh, ew!" Yep. "Do you want some new ones?" Nope. We also found hairs all over the bathroom (in the sink, on the shower walls and curtain, and on the floor) that were clearly not ours.
On check out, I asked for a manager to complain. The manager, who I think was the owner, brought me into a back office (because god forbid I should complain in front of other customers!). It was creepy, and the office was just as funky as the rest of the hotel. I explained our experience, and his only response was "I'll have the general manager call you." Seriously?! What is a call from a GM going to do? I thought we deserved either a refund or at least a discount....and still no call.
The hotel experience could have ruined our weekend getaway, but fortunately Milwaukee is awesome enough that we still had a great time (everywhere outside of our hotel room).
The restaurant dining area was filthy. The dropped ceiling grid had a lot of dirt visible on the edges of the boards, so I don't want to think what was on top of them. The carpet was worn and needed an intense cleaning. I hope and pray the kitchen was not as bad. Also, the restaurant is not run by the hotel.
Service at desk was good.
Room was somewhat clean, but found visible marks on shower
curtain. Maid service came very late and offered more towels.
