“Disappointed”
Reviewed March 28, 2014

Disappointing dinner. Waitress had just come in from smoking. The cigarette smell was overpowering. Heard how great the cheese curds were. They were greasy and lacking flavor. Veggie sandwich also lacking flavor. Beer was very over priced.

“Go 4 food not beer if you have any budget!”
Reviewed March 9, 2014

# couple, on a Saturday nite, service was good, quick and attentive. Everyone had something different. Burgers, salmon special, fish etc. but all reported the food was great.
The only issue is with beer pricing!
Way overpriced? (The profit margin must be astronomical.)
And, since I'm a beer drinker and enjoy one with a good burger.
We won't be going back.
PS: Pretty noisy with the bar right there.

“Spotty Service, Average Food”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

I came here for a late lunch with a friend - there were not many guests there at the time. The menu looked decent, not a ton of options but most people should be able to find something.

The cheese curds were good, but had a VERY strong onion taste. I assumed they must have been breaded/battered with onion but my friend said the flavor was not usually that strong.

I was a little disappointed that they were not able to swap ingredients (lettuce) in the salad I wanted, she said the mix was premade. I thought it was a little unusual not to have romaine or spinach as an alternative to mixed greens (I'm allergic). I went with a sandwich, which was pretty good. The fries were pretty sad, they looked like the fry crumbs you get when everyone has already taken the good ones. A good many of them were the broken pieces and the hard crumbs left over.

Our waitress was nice, however she was very slow. It seemed like we spent a lot of time waiting. Considering the lack of patrons, it was definitely sub standard service. Not to say she was unfriendly - it just seemed like the few people that were there was a little overwhelming for her.

I would not totally cross Craftsman off the list of future dining places, but I would also not go out of my way to eat here.

Like the servers and the patrons. Have and assortment of great beers, many from Wisconsin. Reliable bar food, including fried cheese curds. Excellent Fri. night fish fry.

Featuring a frequently changing selection of craft beer and a pub menu with the second best cheese curds in the Madison area, Craftsman has become a go-to spot for afternoon drinks or dinner.
