“Pretty disappointed in this Marriott”
Reviewed June 22, 2009

This is the first Marriott I have ever been a little disappointed in. I thought initially it was going to be an amazing hotel, since I totally screwed up on the reservation (made it for the wrong day) and the girl at the desk was so cool to work with me and get me a room when the whole place was fully booked.

Except, the place was fully booked for the "Little Miss Junior Miss" Pageant, or some other stupid name like that, which meant HELL for my fiance and I as the entire place was infested with pre-teen beauty queens, their scary domineering mothers, and other random siblings that came along for the ride. Can you say O. M. G.

Now, normally this would be a non-issue, as we are rarely in our hotel room except to sleep and once in the room you couldnt hear a lot of hallway noise. But this 10 story hotel had a grand total of 2 elevators, which were packed at all hours of the day with girls in gowns and tiaras, groups of girls in heavy makeup, or wet children dripping from the hotel pool. This made getting in and out a bit challenging since we were on the top floor.

I realize this is hardly Marriotts fault that the Junior Misses had descended upon Middleton, since they are just trying to turn a buck in this economy, but the design of this place was not user friendly in the slightest. Also, hey brilliant idea guys, put the pool across the hall from the elevator and then make that whole area tile so people track water out and the floor is slippery! Nice. And also understaff the dining area so noone can get in and eat because there is noone to clean off the tables and take your order. Nice planning!

Man, that whole experience left a bad taste. The worst part will be trying to convince my fiance to stay at a Marriott ever again as he is just now getting relief from the migrane he got on Saturday.

This is a quality as usual Marriott property - everything you would expect without frills. It is built in an unusual for Marriott atrium style. The rooms seem a bit larger than other Marriotts. They have an executive lounge with various services throughout the day. On the day I was there they we offereing a generous slice of apple pie for desert. Breakfast in the lounge was the usual fruit, cereal, packaged pastries, warmed eggs.

The location is on the beltway so not very close to downtown Madison and opposite of downtown from the airport. It's an odd location actually with not much around.

I stayed one night at this hotel on business. I was on one of the higher floors, so i did not experience the lobby noise issues that others have written about. Then again, the hotel was pretty much empty during my stay, so that may have been a factor.

The staff was very friendly. The furniture in the room was OK. Not luxurious, but not bad, either. The suite I had contained an lcd TV in the living room as well as the bedroom.

The one negative - Come on Marriott, get with the times and quit charging $9.99 per day for internet access!

I'd stay there again.

This hotel was not the best. Rooms are ok but service is very poor. It needs some updating and the rooms are not very clean. Whatever you do, don't eat the food in the restaurant or room service. It's absolutely horrible. There are many nice restaurants near by that would be much better.

This hotel is similar to a Holiday Inn.
If you expect luxury and modern amenities then look elsewhere. No flat screem T.V.'s, sofa does not face the T.V. and construction noise early on a Saturday morning.
The toilet was running when I entered the room and the coffee pot serves one in a small paper cup without a carafe.
Stay here for comfort, but don't expect anything really nice!!

Stayed here twice. First time during a house hunting trip in March 2008, the second time in May the night before we closed on our house. In May we had our two golden retrievers with us. It's a pretty pet friendly hotel which I liked. The front desk folks loved saying hi to our girls! It's also very convenient to the west side of madison, and easy access to the beltline.

The only complaints that I have are that it's sometimes noisy from the open atrium. The atrium has dining and a bar in it. And, in the AM, you can smell the breakfast food wafting up from the atrium dining. And, the rooms were heavily perfumed. That perfumed smell combined with the breakfast smell wasn't so appetizing.

Overall a pretty good value

I stayed at the Madison West Marriott while on business, and since somebody else paid the bill, I don't know how much the room cost, but I can say that it was among the nicer hotels I've visited in recent years. Built around an open atrium area (as many have mentioned, like Embassy Suites) the property has a lovely sense of space, with glass elevators that perpetuate the open feel. I was on the eighth floor and didn't notice any extraneous noise beyond the occasional stirring from the room next door. The king size bed was wonderful, and the room was well appointed. (I've never understood why I have to pay for internet access in a first tier hotel, but never at the second run location - time to re-evaluate this trick guys!)

The restaurant in the atrium was quite good, though I only ate there once, trying a salad that had actually been seared on the grill as per the server's recommendation. Very good. All in all, it was a very comfortable stay and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Having spent quite a few nights in hotels during the past month, I was delighted to enjoy the amenities and comforts of this particular property.

  • Liked — The bed and the cleanliness of the room
  • Disliked — Climate control was a bit difficult in the room.
