Lunch at The Pines is always part of the annual trip an old buddy and I take to the Turtle-Flambeau Flowage for a week of walleye fishing and extreme ritual liver punishment. The owners are wonderful people who provide great service and conversation, and their homemade dishes really hit the spot for a very reasonable price. I'm partial to the pizza, which has a zesty flavor and a light, fluffy crust made from their biscuit batter, and the lightly battered potato pancakes. The soup of the day is also worth checking out. The restaurant isn't fancy by any means, but it's comfortable and they make you feel right at home. Can't ask for more than that.

Weiner Schnitzel and Duck are fantastic entrees. Kraut and Red Cabbage must be tried. A simple, yet elegant and friendly setting in beautiful northern Wisconsin. Don't miss it if you like excellent quaility, home cooked German food.

Desserts of the old world German variety... Delicious!!! The pork schnitzel sandwich would turn a vegetarian into a meat eater. The meat and breading were so delicate and tender AND succulent. We did not have time to go back for a second visit and are quite sad about that. We will go again and again. We were there for lunch and their dinner menu sounds over the top good!! The building is old, there is nothing "fancy" about it, but the food that comes from the kitchen wraps you up in "home".
