“Comfortable, clean, affordable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2013

Ours was just a drop-by stay, but overall, would say that this beat the prices of the big discount motel chains, while delivering better value. Room was biger, bed was comfortable and affordable, plenty of outlets, good Internet. Only thing missing was the free breakfast, but there *is* a gas station next door.

Every room comes with a little handout giving the history of the motel and recent updates to the property. That was a nice touch, and I hope they keep doing it.

I have stayed at the Chalet several times now and it's always been great - comfortable, quiet, affordable, friendly staff. This time when I checked in, manager David mentioned that all the bedding had been updated and I should check it out. Wow! If I hadn't known where I was, I would have thought I was at a luxury high priced hotel. It made a normally excellent stay even more fantastic. My sister came to meet me and we walked to the Centennial across the street. The fish fry is always great and I must recommend their Gingersnap martini. Also note that you can run from the motel to Virmond Park just 2.5 miles away and be at the majestic Lake Michigan. Once again, the Chalet turned out to be a winner!

Thank you for taking the time to review the Chalet. This past spring we upgraded the bed linen in 15 of our Executive style rooms. We also replaced the carpet and mattresses in 7 of our rooms. There are always positive changes being made. We appreciate your patronage!

Traditional style two-story motel. We had a very large standard room, clean, with newer linens on the first floor near the office. Room had a refrigerator and microwave as well as the more typical. Room was also half the price and twice the size of the Milwaukee airport area hotels. Wifi worked well. On check in, they gave us a coupon for a discount at the adjacent Mexican restaurant which we used; good chile rellenos there. Next morning had cereals and muffins for breakfast in the reception area--do have to take it back to your room to eat (no seating), but I don't remember them even listing a continental breakfast, so that was a nice surprise. Helpful staff for getting directions, and turned out to be more convenient than I expected for getting to the Mitchell Domes/Zoo/Milwaukee Public Museum.

We stayed here on a Saturday night when the hotel where we usually stay was booked up. We weren't expecting much based on the price of the motel. What a pleasant surprise when we checked in! You notice right away that it's an older motel but the people that own it are working very hard to keep it modern and nice. The room was very clean and comfortable. The bed was the most comfortable hotel bed ever and we loved the over-sized recliner. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It's close to the highway but we didn't experience any noise problems and we had the windows open! We also liked the fact that the a/c - heating unit were not right next to the bed. We travel to Milwaukee often to visit our grandchildren and even though it's about 5 miles farther from their house, we will definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: Ask for an "executive room" so you can have a fridge and microwave. It's not much mor...

Overall adequate and the owners seem to be trying to keep it up.

Pros:
Not so expensive.
Quite despite being within ear shot of the highway.
Extremely pleasant staff.
New toilet and shower.
Adjustable heat/AC that is well positioned. It does not blow right on you!
Functional bathroom and separate sink area.
Adequate sized room with table for computer
Free and very decent speed wireless internet
Plenty of free channels on cable TV

Cons:
Extremely plan bathroom
Chronically dirty behind the toilet and behind the bathroom door where house keeping seems to miss.
Rather depressing décor
Sheets were not large enough to stay attached to a somewhat thin queen sized mattress
No night light

Thank you for the very thorough review. The staff at the Chalet appreciates all reviews.
Constructive criticism acts as a wake-up call, that we can all do more to serve our guests.

There is no excuse for the area behind the door and toilet to be dirty in any hotel room. We are always preaching that we are in the "clean and comfortable" business. These points will be addressed with housekeeping.

From your list of "Pros", it appears that you stayed in an Executive room. Our Executive rooms feature 11" pillow top mattresses that are less than 2 years old. Many hotels use 8" or less and no pillow top. We receive many compliments on our choice of mattresses.

You are 100% correct on the way the sheets fit. Starting around May 17, 2013, we will have all new sheets, pillows and comforters in our Executive rooms.

All the rooms on the property have night lights. We will have maintenance do a better job of keeping them in working order.

Hope to see you again.

I spent two weeks at the Chalet in January. Don't believe any negative reviews!!! This was an awesome stay. Staff was amazing, friendly, and housekeeping was impeccable. The rooms were clean, no smell, and the bed was absolutely the most comfortable bed I have slept on in a motel/hotel. Noise was not a problem. There is a small but adequate laundry room (free of charge). The owner/managers gave me tips on where to find the best coffee and places to eat, as well as where the grocery stores were. The mini kitchen really came in handy, I didn't have to go out for breakfast or dinner if I didn't want to. Check in and check out were easy and quick, and there was always enough parking. They have a Mexican restaurant right next door... yummy. I will stay here in the future!

Room Tip: A room upstairs means you don't have to hear people walking above you :)

After recently exploring the fabulous Art Museum of Milwaukee for a long day's visit, we decided to venture north (a short and lovely drive along Lake Michigan) for an overnight stay rather than choose among some pricey options in the downtown. (Also, we wanted to stay north of the downtown as our next day's activity centered on visiting the quaint town of Cedarburg.) The Chalet Motel in Mequon proved to provide excellent value. In addition to its affordability--half the price of one in downtown Milwaukee--the hotel room was large, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. As some reviewers have noted, the hotel is older--but it is very well maintained. Our room had an enormous fully tiled bathroom. The office staff were both inviting and efficient. As we stayed in winter, traffic along Port Washington Road was not busy or noisy, though this might not be the case in other seasons. We definitely would stay here again if in the area.
