“Decent Lake Front Cabins”
Reviewed August 25, 2017 for a stay in August 2017

I'm not going to give them 4 stars without offering some criticisms but overall we were pleased with our experience. The cabins are all tucked right in next to each other with other neighbors nearby too but it didn't really bother us. The bed was small but decent. The pullout was uncomfortable as all pull outs are but it worked well enough for small kids. The sensor in the fridge kept freezing up so we had to keep defrosting it to keep our food cold. Just make sure it has plenty of empty space around it. The oven is very small and won't fit a pizza. There were dishes, utensils, and basic cookware, but if you need something more specific like a strainer you better bring it. The natural wood finish inside the cabins was nice. They have 2 fire rings and free firewood which was great for smores. Each cabin has a plastic picnic table and 2 plastic chairs. just bring some camp chairs and you'll be fine. They have two docks. The bigger one on the left had the fishing boat and a bench for fishing. The one on the right was for the pontoon. If you want to use the free rowboat or paddle boat be prepared to pull them down of the hill and clean them out. The inexpensive pontoon and boat rental was the main reason I chose this place. The pontoon is old and dirty and has nothing but some plastic picnic chairs but for the money it suited our needs fine. Most Pontoon rentals are much more expensive. As for the lake, well that is a mixed bag. The worst part is the Green Algae everywhere. We did not want to risk swimming at the beach nearby as it can be toxic. There are alot of homes on the lake but it is also home to some very large Bald Eagles which were cool to see. The Sunset from the dock is nice. The fishing was slow when we were there but we did manage to get some good panfish. The Sunfish are huge here. They were difficult to catch with a bite coming every 30-45 mins average but it was worth the wait. There are 3 little fingers about 75 yards out from the cabins that are some of the best Sunfish spots. People fishing off the deck did ok for Sunnies. They were out there all afternoon and said they caught 6 but like I said they are huge 10"+ers. They had to cast quite far from the dock to reach them. The weedline was from 6 to 9 feet and every fish inside the weedline was small. The big ones are out deeper so I'd recommend taking a boat out there to reach them in the summer. I saw people pulling decent Largemouth from the docks near the cabin and caught a couple off the dock myself. The only other structure on the lake worth noting is the hump on the other side. You will need a portable depth finder to find it. I went searching for Walleyes but wound up catching some Crappies between 8 and 11 inches. They were suspended 8-10 feet down in 18 feet of water all around the hump. Couldn't find any perch either but I did get a couple Pike. If I had it to do over again I would just go after Sunfish and work that stretch in front of the cabins all day. This is truly a very special Sunfish lake that you won't see very often. I will be coming back for the Sunfish.

“expected more”
Reviewed October 28, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Shower head points to shower stall wall. Bed mattress sinks to the middle. Apparently we came during the off season for there were no other guests. Price too high for time of year and room ammenities.

My daughter, husband and I had a wonderful stay, we enjoyed the lake and fishing from the dock, relaxing at the campfire and our cozy stay in the cabin. What great memories we now have.

Loved the newly renovated cabin, very comfortable bed. Super quiet so easy to sleep. Lake is also peaceful. We enjoyed the paddle boat and pontoon. Kids caught plenty of fish. The owners started a bonfire so we could roast marshmallows. We did some cooking inside our cabin, but also on the bbq provided. The owners were really helpful and kind. These cabins are very easy to find, and are a short distance from the cities. We will definitely return.

We had a great time. The renters were very helpful and everything was very clean. As "glampers" this was a positive :). Beautiful location and super close to the twin cities, so convenient. Dog friendly which was a huge plus for us! Would def recommend
