“the good and the bad!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2013

i have mixed feelings about my stay here. first the good news, was told when we booked the hotel they didnt have any anchor suites with a oven, at last minute i was told there was 1 room with one, so i got it! great for my xmas dinner with the hubby. now the bad, had to wait around 3 hours to get in our room cause it wasnt ready, after driveing 5 hrs. got in and it was a very nice, clean room. discovered no coffee pot. the maker was there, but no pot. got one. then our key wouldnt work at the pool, got that fixed, then to top it off, no kitchen towels, NONE. so compliand some more, was given a bath towel, to clean dishes. fineally got some kitchen towels. we got the oven and nothing in our room to cook anything in. had to wait for the maid to bring me a broiler pan to cook with. we paid $11 resort fee, for each night, plus the room cost. would not give me any money back. NOTE to maids -- have a room checklist to make sure the room is fully stocked!! could have gave me my resort fee back!! had 222 rooms, had to wait. for what. a room that didnt have the things we needed. get real people. nice xmas gift

Room Tip: make sure your rooms are fully stocked!! cause thle maids and the front desk dont have a clue!!! i t...

I staid the weekend of Thanksgiving. I booked this hotel because it had a fireplace. The fireplace did not work. It took 5 or 6 tries to get it to light. When it did lite, it stayed lite for only a few minutes. The front desk said they would send maintenance to fix it. I don't think anyone looked at the fireplace. The toaster only toasted one side of the bread! They did send a new toaster. The DVD player paused by itself four or five times in the middle of a brand new dvd! The toilet had to be plunged anytime solid waste was present!! The last thing I want to do on vacation is plung a toilet! Obviously this was a known problem because there was a plunger in the room! Discusting! I would not recommend this hotel for a family or anyone wanting to spend time relaxing and enjoy the "amenities". I wrote to the President of the corporation hopeing to get a response! NOTHING! The front desk agent "is not authorized" to do any price adjustments or really anything to address my concerns. I was told a manager would call. No one has contacted me! It's been three weeks now! Terrible for customer loyality and customer service. I would NOT recommend this hotel for anyone!

Room Tip: Do not stay in room 236!

This is my 7th stay at The Cove. Every year I come here for a weekend. Every year it seems like something goes awry and it is nothing major just not what you would expect. This year, the restaurant had a fire, that would have been nice to know before making the 6 hour trek. We sit there and watch football and have a few. A couple years ago, construction, it started at seven outside the room. TV's are small, rooms need updated but I seem to keep coming back. All in all it is a nice average resort stay.

We came in the off-season for a long weekend get-away. The location of the resort is very good - within walking distance of downtown Lake Geneva. When we initially checked in, our room was on the first floor and, even though it was supposed to be a non-smoking room, it wreaked of smoke (there was still a small ozone treatment unit on the kitchen counter, but it was apparently not very effective against the overwhelming smell of smoke). The front desk was very responsive in relocating us to a much nicer 3rd floor unit (which apparently are nicer and better maintained by the unit owners). The unit was dated (1980s-1990s) and somewhat worn, but appeared to be clean and moderately well maintained, with a nice view of Mill Creek. However, we had to unplug the HVAC in the bedroom, since it came on every 10 minutes or so and sounded like a jet taking off. Fortunately, the unit in the living room kept the entire unit warm enough to be comfortable, as long as the bedroom door was left open.

This resort was apparently very family-oriented, so we heard children running up and down the hallways at various times of the day and night. We noticed that the 1st and 2nd floor hallways tended to be a bit noisier, since people were going back and forth frequently to the indoor pool facilities. However, the prices of the rooms were reasonable and the resort is well-located for those interested in more of a laid-back get-away (i.e. don't expect this to be a high end resort).

Room Tip: If you have the option, ask for a unit on the 3rd or 4th floors.

We went up to Lake Geneva for a weekend getaway and stayed here. I thought the room was nice, clean and very spacious. The king size bed was nice and pretty comfortable. We had a nice view of Mill Creek. I sat by the fireplace most of the weekend. It was amazing!!! The hotel is also very close to downtown, so we could walk to everything.

This was our first trip to Lake Geneva and it is such a cute little town! This hotel is within walking distance to everything you might want to do while you're here. The location really couldn't have been any better.

We stayed in the Anchor Suite, as did most of the people with whom we traveled. Our stay, including tax, came out to about $130/night. Our room was neat, clean, and smelled heavily of old White Castles or someone's burnt and not-so-healthy breakfast that morning. Our bed literally backed up to the elevator on the 3rd floor and we didn't hear a thing all night. Very well insulated! The bed really hurt my husband's back, though. He said it was like sleeping on a pile of cardboard. Ouch.

Since the rooms are apparently individually owned, we noticed some differences between them. The furniture is similar (old and dull) in all the rooms but the decor varies widely. Some have a couple prints on the walls and that's it, but others have nautical motifs, 3D art, etc. throughout the living space. They all have a gas fireplace which is nice, even if it's sort of cheesy, and the three rooms I saw all had jacuzzi tubs. Despite the nicer tub, the shower head was very outdated. The only mirror in the room was the one on the wall behind the bathroom sink. If you have more than one woman in a room trying to style her hair or apply makeup, someone is going to get knocked out. (Kidding.)

There was a door by the bed that was locked. I guess that's where the owners store their belonging? The suites at this level are all OPEN so if you want to stay in these rooms with other people and expect a little privacy (to get dressed, for example), think again. The bed is the first thing you see when you walk in the front door and the rest of the room is wide open so if other people are in the room socializing or coming and going through the front door, forget about even taking a nap.

The cook top in our room was old with coils that no longer fit into their holes on the stove. The stove itself sat on top of the counter with no oven below it. Of the rooms I saw, ours was the only one without an oven. It was also the only one without a modern cooking surface. This didn't bother us, but I imagine couples and families come here for the lake in the summer (FANTASTIC lake location) and cook all their own food all week. This would have been a huge problem if we had been counting on an oven. On top of the stove was the oldest tea kettle I have ever seen (not antique, not vintage, just OLD). I am a big tea drinker but I didn't even touch this thing. There are at least two coffee shops within two or three blocks and a breakfast joint called Egg Harbor that makes a great pot of Earl Grey. I would recommend sauntering up that way for your morning caffeine fix.

The hotel's restaurant is supposed to be very good but there was a fire in the kitchen in September 2013 and it is still closed for renovations. We did not hear or see any construction during our stay but that doesn't mean they aren't working on it, just that it was not loud enough to disrupt our stay (definitely a positive!). The GM sent out an email two days before we checked in to inform us of the restaurant closing.

Overall, we really truly enjoyed our stay here, even if the accommodations weren't exactly 5-star and the weather didn't really cooperate. There was lots of space and lots of seating even in the smallest of suites which was conducive to large groups of friends and family gathering together in someone's room for some good laughs and Wisconsin beer. For a casual lakeside vacation, I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: Every room is different - don't be afraid to ask for a recently update suite when you check in!

Great suite room with comfy bed. I really enjoyed the jacuzzi tub and nice bathroom and the fireplace in the living room. I even got to enjoy the balcony in the morning with my coffee (provided with real coffee cups!) and looked out at Geneva Lake.

Definitely want to go back
