Owner description: This lovely 21-mile walking path, around Geneva Lake, takes pedestrians by impressive homes and quiet lakeside neighborhoods. A two-mile swath on the West End offers a manageable stroll, lovely views, and passes landmarks such as the Abbey Resort and Fontana Spa and popular local eateries like Chuck's.

Where else in the world does one find public access to a path like this that entirely circles a lake - Geneva Lake? You have beautiful views and get some exercise at the same time. The homes are as interesting to view as the beautiful scenery of views up, down and across the lake.

We were delighted to learn that it was possible to take a hike around the lake on the shore path and experience the beauty of the lake and the gorgeous homes together in such close proximity. The path is actually 22 miles. We managed about 5 of them taking in the views of Covenant Harbor and the Wrigley mile. Can't wait to go back and walk more! Highly recommend.

You have to buy the little book sold at all stores in Lake Geneva (about $7 at most stores) as a guide and hike the trail. We started at the dock downtown where the boat tours leave (you get on the trail right past the beach there and bathrooms to the right when facing the water) and went to #15 in the book (and then turned around and walked back) but we heard any part of the trail is awesome! We found this beautiful, interesting, and important to the Lake Geneva culture. We are not normally hikers or even walkers on vacation, but we are so glad we did this. So worth the time....... and good for you!

Our objective comming to Lake Geneva was to walk the much talked about Lake Shore path trail. We started out failry early in the morning. Beautiful sunny day. We saw so many beautiful homes up close...something that is very rare to experience (walking the path).
For the most part, the path was well marked. We did buy a book for $7.00 called Geneva Lake Shore Path Guide, which came in very handy!
There was one part on the South Lake Shore section that makes you do a huge detour away from the lake. This is very poorly marked as we got lost a couple of times along with other hikers we ran into. We do not understand why this detour is there. The promise made to the Indians by the region’s earliest settlers who dictated that the 20 feet of land directly up from the shoreline be deemed public domain. Other than that horrible detour...the path was very nice and well worth the 21 mile day hike!!!

My husband and I walked the path for about 2 hours, which actually didn't get us very far! We enjoyed looking at the beautiful properties along the way. There were a couple of rough patches where the path needed some major repair, but for the most part it seems to be well maintained. We are looking forward to returning soon to walk more of the path and take in more of the sights.
