Visiting Pizza Amore on a Sunday night was a reminder that we have several real gems of restaurants here in the La Crosse area. Pizza Amore is efficiently elegant in style – it's a small space but the old building's high ceiling and front window structure offers a lot of design / decor potential, which Kate's takes advantage of very well, including a couple of colorful hanging space dividers and a small bar full of big pizzazz. The service was just fine on our trip, catering well to the needs of three children, which can likely be a trick at a gourmet pizza restaurant. The Carnitas Ensalada, although a complicated mixture of greens, sauces, and meat, tasted good at the right spot: the roasted pork. The highlight was the artfully crafted Margherita pizza though. A perfectly done thin crust, ripe tomatoes, cheese, and a drizzled top of basil pesto was a nice example of the traditional recipe.
