“Pet friendly and people friendly!”
Reviewed July 25, 2008

This is your average Days Inn so don't go here expecting a 5 star hotel. The people at the front desk were friendly and the hotel allows pets (I was traveling with 2 cats) for a $10 charge, which isn't bad compared to some hotels. The rooms do have an old, musty smell to them but are very spacious. There is a restaurant attached with delicious cheeseburgers if you are looking for a quick bite to eat! After a long day of travel, this place was just fine!

We stayed at the Days Inn for two nights while attending a conference in La Crosse. The location was very good...just off Interstate 90 and next to the airport. Everything in town was easy to reach from here, though it isn't a very big town either. The staff was very friendly and helpful at check-in and check-out.

The building is quite large but there are several well-marked outside doors which can be opened with the room key. The hotel is arranged in a rectangle around an interior courtyard that is planted with flowers and other vegetation. It looks like it would have been very sunny and relaxing, but it was rainy while we were there so we didn't use the courtyard at all. There is no elevator to the second floor, but plenty of stairwells make coming and going not too hard.

We had the standard non-smoking room with king size bed. There was also a small sofa in the room that would fold out to make another bed in the room. The room also had a small refrigerator and microwave. We were comfortable in the room and everything was very clean and well kept. The view from our second-floor window, which had been "riveted shut for our protection," was unexceptional; we could see a small grassy area and the gas station next door mainly. The freeway was also very close and traffic noise did penetrate into the room. The soundproofing of the room was not very good and we could hear conversations and television taking place in the next room.

The hotel includes a small restaurant called Adam's Rib and there is also a bar. Both of these are at the far end of the building, away from the sleeping rooms. We ate one evening meal and one breakfast at the restaurant. The evening meal was OK, but the food was not great. We had the "baby back ribs" that were far too large to qualify as baby back. This came with steamed vegetables and choice of potato. The vegetables were over cooked. No bread came with the entree. There was hardly anyone in the place and only one staff person waiting tables. The next morning we tried the breakfast buffet and that was worse. Again there were hardly any people eating and the food on the buffet was largely unappetizing: scrambled eggs, biscuits with gravy, sausage, hash browns, cold cereal and sliced fruit. The buffet cost $5.95 per person, and included coffee, but it was not worth half that amount.

In general, we were satisfied with the room. We did not use the pool during our stay. We experienced no problems at all. For the price we paid ($60 the first night, $80 the second night), it was just fine. However, I cannot recommend the restaurant at all. It would be better to drive into town for meals as there are plenty of quality restaurants not far away.

  • Liked — The in-room refrigerator and microwave.
  • Disliked — The restaurant was a disappointment.

We arrived late (after 11 p.m.), but the front desk person was friendly and welcoming. We had a second-floor room that was quite comfortable. We had two beds, a refrigerator, microwave, and in-room coffee service. A dip in the indoor pool was a great way to start the day. We also received two $2-off coupons for the breakfast buffet in the attached restaurant (which is normally $5.95). The breakfast was so-so, but it was at least convenient, and soon we were on the road again. Good inexpensive choice for a clean, comfortable short stay.

Stayed at the Days Inn in LaCrosse, WI on French Island on June 25, 05. The staff was pleasant, rooms were dated but clean and comfortable. The pool and hot tub area was large and were also kept clean. Very enjoyable. Ate breakfast at the hotel restuarant which was very good! Served very large portions. For the money ($82), I would rate it average. This is a budget motel so don't expect the Hilton. (When checking rates with other hotels, this was half the price.) I would probably go again if traveling in the area.
