Two Saturdays in a row we've had lunch in the elegant bar, overlooking the Mississippi River which today was covered in a romantic mist. Most diners were outside on the covered patio, so we had the bar to ourselves, which was very nice and relaxed. The lunch menu is limited compared to the dinner, but we were quite satisfied. Husband's burger and fries were delicious; my shrimp cocktail was good, not great...three huge rather average-tasting shrimp in too small an amount of sauce. But they were totally redeemed by the fish tacos, the best I have ever had! Kudos to the chef for the sweet, lightly fried fish and that wonderful sauce, possibly mango. Even the soft taco itself was tasty. The three taco serving is rather small in volume (hint to the chef!) but you will be happy to know I finished off my husband's French fries so was quite satisfied!
As always, the service is impeccable (Olivia on this visit); the setting is the best in La Crosse with the river view, immaculate landscaping and upscale but not pretentious decor. Our lunch totalled $49, pre-tip, for the meal, one wine (rather stingy serving, I must say) and one beer.
We have eaten here several times during our business trips to La Crosse. It is simply the most well-run, elegant-yet-relaxed restaurant in La Crosse, and the food is superb. This restaurant would possibly be at home in NYC; La Crosse is lucky to have it.
