“best value for a guys golf trip to Kohler”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

Downsides first - the hotel is in a shopping plaza and there isnt much for scenary other than a small lake behind the hotel. Other downside is the lack of a bar within the hotel and the American Club/Fitness Center and Spa is an 8 minute walk away which can be a bit miserable when it is 40 degrees in May

But, if you are a group of guys like we were who are golfing 36 holes a day, I thought this was a great value. We did the Dyeabolical package which essentially was 420 bucks a day pp for a double occupancy room and 2 rounds of golf a day. Rooms were clean, modern and the Kohler shower was great. Breakfast buffet was awesome - hot buffet with good options.

5 minutes to Blackwolf Run and 20 to Whistling Straits. The food at Horse and Plough was pretty bad - wouldnt do more than drinks and light appetizers there. Thought the best tasting food was at the Blackwolf Run clubhouse and the best bar was at Whistling Straits. Didn't try the fancier stuff at the American Club.

if I came with my wife I would have definitiely opted for the American Club. But for a guys golf trip, this was more than adequate and the better value.

This is an extremely nice, comfortable hotel right in Kohler Village. We were in town for the Women's Golf Academy. I have also stayed at The American Club in previous years. It was not available this year. The Inn has the fabulous staff that you would expect in Kohler. The rooms are very modern. The bathroom only has a shower, I would have liked a tub, but the shower is an amazing Kohler shower. I thought the towels could have been more plush, but the bathroom was nicely appointed. The rooms are spacious as well. The Inn sits on a lovely lake. Breakfast is included each morning, and you are walking distance to shops. There is also shuttle on demand to get you where you need to go in town, and the shuttle for Whistling Straits leaves on the hour. If you are golfing, and don't need the luxury of The American Club, this is a great place to stay.

The Inn on Woodlake provides high quality lodging in Kohler, Wisconsin. As you might expect, the plumbing fixtures are exceptional. Our shower had five shower heads--wow! A nice feature of the 42" plasma TV was that the sound was piped to a speaker above the bed so you didn't have to turn the TV up to hear it while lying in bed. The TV sound was also piped into the bathroom, with a separate volume control. Nice touch.

Our room had a view of the lake and the window actually opens, so we were able to sleep with the window open and awake to bird song in the morning. Be sure to ask for a lakeview room, since not all rooms have this. Most lakeview rooms have either a balcony or patio, so be sure to also ask if this if you want to be able to step outside. The ground floor lakeside rooms open to the putting green (it's between the building and the lake).

Free breakfast is included daily and is pretty decent for a free breakfast. Fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, banana berry smoothies, fresh orange juice, bagels, muffins, hard-boiled eggs and then hot entrees which varied--example scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon, pancakes and the like. The breakfast are also had hot coffee which is available 24/7. The seating can get filled up quickly, but we never had trouble getting a table since everyone was moving in/out pretty quickly. We opted to sit at one of the outside tables one morning, which was nice. Overflow seating is one floor down in the conference area, but we never got down there so I can't comment on the relative convenience/inconvenience of doing this.

I used the cardio equipment daily at the nearby Sportscore center, which is a very nice facility. It's either a short drive or short walk (around the lake) away. Besides tons of tennis courts (indoor and outdoor), there are two indoor pools, cardio and other gym equipment and indoor and outdoor hot tubs. The outdoor tub has an adjacent fireplace. I only used the cardio equipment but was impressed with the facility overall.

The shopping center next to the hotel has lots of little shops, some dining options and a grocery store. The shops all seem to close by 6 pm, so do your gift shopping early. The grocery store and restaurants stay open later. We ate at the Cucina restaurant and had a very nice meal, taking advantage of the outside seating by the lake. We also ate at the Plow and Hearth at The American Inn and loved the Beer and Cheese Soup. Don't miss this treat!

The hotel runs shuttles to the golf and other amenities, but we drove everywhere we needed to go--which was mainly the golf courses. Blackwolf Run is ten minutes away at most. Whistling Straits is about twenty minutes away and is definitely worth the trip even if you're not playing golf. We had a sandwich in their pub and then sat outside with drinks to watch golfers play holes 9 and 18. We also got a bit of a view of Lake Michigan from the bench we were sitting on. If you're a golfer, get out there and enjoy this course!

I would definitely stay at the Inn at Woodlake again.

Room Tip: Be sure to request a lakeside room and also request a balcony or patio, if desired, since not all la...

I stay at the Inn when I do business in the area. The shuttle service makes it too easy. The Inn is very comfortable. Breakfast is always quite good and the rooms are well appointed. I keep coming back.

Traveled to the Inn for a wedding, and the Inn on Woodlake was the better value between it and the American Club. The lakeview room was lovely, the bed was comfortable, and the service was good. The shower looked great, with 2 overhead shower heads, and 3 (or was it two?) for the body. It lacked pressure, though, so it left me wanting more for getting the shampoo out of my hair. The morning breakfast was nice, but because of large contingents of golfers, they kept running out of items. The shuttle came when requested, but I would really have liked having a hot tub right in the hotel. It would have been such a production just to get to the sports core for a quick soak, that we just didn't bother.

We ate a the the Horse and Plow for lunch - the menu was quite extensive, and the service was excellent. The food for both meals arrived cold, on both days. They were great about fixing the problems, but it seemed to be a consistent one.

Went to the Kohler design center, and it was fun. Free admission, but it is going to be really expensive after all the ideas we came away with!

Took a quick weekend getaway in the winter to Kohler, Wisconsin. Inn on Woodlake is a better value that American Club with all the same amenities. Free shuttle taking you between the Inn and the American Club or it's a quick walk (if not too cold out). Really nice showers and comfortable beds. Breakfast buffet was not to much but was still a nice amenity. We took advantage of the sports club and utilized the outdoor hot tub, walked the trails and had some great food. The brunch at the Wisconsin room was excellent on Sunday and extremely reasonable compared to Chicago prices! Nice getaway for either a spa or couples weekend.

I came to the Inn on Woodlake for business purposes for one night. Admittedly it did not exactly live up to the expectations that were displayed on the website, but I didn't travel around enough to let this be a negative. The front desk was very friendly and helpful and my room was nice and clean. Nice area close to a shopping center with shops and restaurants. No complaints - overall a nice stay particularly for the price.
