“Ask for a room on an upper floor”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

We stayed at the American Club earlier this month (Oct. 2012). The staff is wonderful and very helpful. If you golf, the bellman will arrange for your clubs to be waiting at the course when you get there, and there are frequent shuttles to both Whistling Straights and Blackwolf Run. We had the standard king, and while the room was very nice, we were on the first floor, overlooking a courtyard, and our room felt like a cave. There was never enough light in the room due to heavy curtains, as well as shutters. If you stay, I'd suggest asking for a room on a higher floor where there may be more light. Our bathroom had a great shower, but the bathroom itself was very small, with only one sink, so we had to take turns getting ready. The food at the Immigrant Restaurant was very good, and the service was exemplary, but don't go there if you're really hungry, because the portions are small, and the whole meal is very expensive. If you're a foodie, it is worth it, but not if you don't really care what you're eating. We will go back, because my husband wanted to play Whistling Straits, but it rained so he couldn't. We had lunch at the WS clubhouse, and the viefood was good pub-style food. I went to the spa and had the best facial in my life - they even did a hand, shoulder, neck and foot massage. Now that's a facial! But it was not cheap. You can relax afterwards in any of the relaxation areas. I didn't want to leave!

Room Tip: Ask for one on a higher floor, although the buildings only have 2 or 3 floors.

We've stayed here a few times, most recently on our wedding night. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. It is Kohler, so the bathrooms are great. The service is very nice as well. To have someone waiting at the elevator to show us to our room at 1 in the morning was pretty impressive. A perfect place for a special occasion or weekend away.

The American Club is top notch! We went a way for the weekend with another couple and had a great time. My husband golfed the very tough Whistling Straits course and felt like he was in Europe, not Wisconsin. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The accommodations are very nice. Great restaurants, golf and the spa is wonderful. You must eat at River Wildlife Lodge while you are there! I highly recommend!

Wonderful experience, beautiful area, great seminars! D.R. Mixologist was a hoot! Sat in on a wine seminar at the market a block or so away. Lots of fun the whole day. The gourmet market could have had a few more vendors and the lay out was a little confusing, but still had a wonderful afternoon.

We came here for a conference and really enjoyed our stay. The bed in our room was one of the most comfortable I can remember. The shower was incredible. The hotel staff was nice and helpful. The hotel itself has lots of quiet charm. We also had a great experience in the spa. The staff was very professional. There is not lots to do in Kohler, but enough for a nice weekend. We were very glad we came here.

Room Tip: Because this was not originally built as a hotel, many of the rooms a slightly different from one an...

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at the American Club in early October. It was our first time visiting and we enjoyed ourselves very much. We stayed in the Carriage House, which was comfortable and cozy, though in need of some updates. I understand it is undergoing renovations this winter. There are also accommodations in The American Club, which apparently have been renovated. The upside to the Carriage House is that it is in the same building as the Waters Spa, which is fantastic. Although we did not receive any spa treatments, we had full access. The spa includes a co-ed dipping pool, hot tub and solarium, and exquisite locker rooms with a hot tub, cold tub, sauna and steam room. There are numerous loungers scattered throughout the facility, which many people used to read and nap on. Carriage House guests are also treated to an open bar cocktail hour with snacks, continental breakfast, and tea hour. The breakfast is basic but just fine, especially if you have big meals for dinner. We are not golfers, but drove 10-15 minutes west to the Kettle Moraine North State Park, where we went road biking for the day. We saw stunning colors and the roads were very ideal for biking as they were nicely paved and low-traffic. There are also many hiking trails in the park that we would love to explore next time. As most reviewers confirm, the service is outstanding. We will certainly return.

Room Tip: The American Club rooms are more updated, though more expensive. Carriage House are older, but comfo...
