“Nothing fancy”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

Stayed here for a night. One of the only places in the area that lets you stay only one night. It was clean, very basic, nothing fancy. They do charge per person if there are more than two. Contiental breakfast was very minimal.

Checked in late and the owner was very cordial. Got our room confused w/friends room, but came running up the stairs w/the correct room. Breakfast was packaged muffins and honey buns, not very good, coffee and juice. No place to sit, so took it back to our room. The room was large and clean. Bathroom was newly remodeled, w/new tile on floor and new tub. The sink, outside the toilet room, was in need of some updating. Sofa and desk in sitting area. Overall it was alright. We would stay there again as a stop over. Only bars available for dinner that night. Ate at the bowling alley in town and it was a very good pizza. Paid $59 for a Sunday night stay.

Room Tip: We had 202 in the back and it was quiet, 2nd floor if you can climb the stairs. did not see an ele...

The room was filthy. The mattress on our bed was stained and the fitted sheet was too small for the mattress, so it kept popping off of the corners and exposing the stains. The fridge failed to keep our beverages cold, even at it's coldest setting. The tv remote had crusty remains on it, perhaps food or boogers, we used a plastic bag to cover the remote. The wireless intenet had a weak signal, and our cell phones did not work at all, we have AT&T. The carpets were stained and peeling away from the walls at the edges of the room. The blankets were covered in random black curly hair, the walls above the headboard were stained and crusty. Two of the 5 lights in the room had bulbs that did not work. This was the only available hotel room in Kewaunee that night, or we would have left and gone elsewhere. When we checked out the next morning, the "contnental breakfast" was a loaf of white bread, toaster, and carton of OJ. The entire lobby smelled of burned toast and ethnic spices. Maybe it was just a fluke that all of this went wrong, but that's the problem with first impressions, you only get to make them once. Fail.

I was hoping to stay in Sturgeon Bay or somewhere in Door County, however, hotels there are not cheap, and not always available on peak weekends. I ended up reserving a room in Kewaunee at the Harbor Lights Lodge (motel). The room rate was affordable, and for the price (around $75 with tax for a Friday night stay) I was very happy. While it was a basic motel, and a basic room, it was definitely clean and quiet, like I like it! The bed was nice and hard, which was great for me, but maybe not for everyone, and the room was fairly large. There were muffins and pastries in the morning, starting at 6:15, which I liked. You could walk about a block or block and a half to the most prominent restaurant in town, which was nice. There was no elevator, so if you can't walk a lot, you'll want to ask for a room on the first floor. I think there was a little fridge, and a microwave, and adequate parking.

I thought I had left my phone charger in the airport, and panicked when my phone was dead. The person at the desk that evening rummaged through things that had been left and provided me with a charger. It didn't work, however, so he then told me about the Shopko up the street.

All in all, while this was no palace, for the price, I felt it was a great choice for one night on my own, and I found it very comfy.

Nice view of the lake from room. It is in a nice location & has a marvelous view. The rooms are adequate and have fridge and microwave in them. Coffee and tea available any time. Inetrnet worked great. My personal experience was great, this is a great place to stay and the owner was respectful and pleasant.

There aren't many hotel options in Kewaunee, WI. This was our third stay at Harbor Lights. We chose it because previously it had a nice pool and hot tub - perfect for unwinding and letting the kids blow off steam. Well, they got rid of the pool area. (Not sure what they did with it; just a closed off area now, perhaps it became the proprietor's residence?) Additionally, the front desk person had no patience for kids, the morning "continental breakfast" was plastic wrapped, horribly unhealthy and tasting muffins or danishes, etc. with coffee and juice (does that even qualify as a continental breakfast?), and they didn't have connecting rooms for a large family. The room was clean. They had good cable t.v. options. It was quiet enough, thus conducive to sleeping. So, this place isn't horrible, but I'm on the fence as to whether or not we'd stay there again in the future. Might be time to try out one of the other places in town, especially since we still have kids.
