Just got back from a great weekend with friends... visited the USS Cobia in Manitowoc. Next, came "Trout Days" in Kewaunee (unbeknownst to me, when I planned the excursion). Who knew?! http://www.kewaunee.org/Troutfestival.html We had a front row seat from the front porch at the Kewwaunee Inn (where we stayed) for the fireworks and revelry (which lasted well into the evening!). http://www.kewauneeinn.com/ Sunday... went to the Flying Pig in Algoma http://www.theflyingpig.biz/ (amazing place), the not-to-be-missed Von Stiehl winery in Algoma http://vonstiehl.com/, Red's Rock 'n Shore pub on the lake in Algoma http://www.rocknshorepub.com/index.html ... and then (frown), home. K & G are headed back to their cats in KY, now. Too bad you are so far away! Need to do that stuff more often! Next time? CHEESE! http://www.eatwisconsincheese.com/assets/pdfs/WisconsinCheeseMap.pdf

Bottom line? A great weekend, without driving quite all the way up to the Door County crowds and madness of summer. We had a great time and the inn, under new ownership I hear, was delightful, with huge rooms, lots of character, comfy beds and good quality sheets. Everything was quiet and clean and walking distance to anything you'd want to do in the evening, whether walk down to the harbor, have dinner or drinks in town. The front porch was great for hanging out late into the evening with our friends (whom we don't see often) and again in the morning for coffee and a nice continental breakfast.

My only issue is that, as nice and roomy as they are, the rooms seem somewhat overpriced for the town - Door County prices, yet NOT Door County. Even with the 10% AAA discount, the room with a king bed was $116. I feel that about $100 REGULAR price (pre-discount) might be more in keeping with the location and somewhat quirky (though special!) hotel. But, what do I know?!

Room Tip: Ask for the "premium" room - you'll pay a little more, but get a large corner room wit...

Like so many out of the way communities, and the hotels located within these communities, the recession has had a devastating impact from which they will not recover. The Kewaunee Inn has reverted to the lowest common denominator level typical of businesses found in dying towns. Perhaps most bothersome is the age and condition of the linens , pillows, etc in the rooms. If you stay I highly recommend bringing along, at a minimum, you own pillows. If you're looking for great places with ambiance in the area I suggest staying in DePere or Downtown Green Bay. Both have seen revivals of their historic downtowns, and have a wonderful array of dining options, brew pubs, and great boutiques.

My husband and I love the history of the Inn. We were happy with the view. The room was clean. The bed was good. The staff was friendly. We will be going back this summer. The locaion is close to a trail head. When we go back we will take our bikes. The value was very good. Not just a summer place. we were there on a cool fall weekend and had a wonderful time.

Stayed here 1 night with a group of friends. We camp in the area in summer so we do know places to go to. The hotel is clean, the rooms are decent, older but antique type furniture, comfy beds, and just a little old time style. Thanksfully we saw NO ghosts. Everyone was pleased with the rooms over all. Location was excellent for walking to bars and some restaurants, so worked perfect for our mid Feb needs.

We liked the antique charm, loaded with antiques on all floors. Huge lobby, open staircase and wide hallways. Beds are OK, not pillow tops. Desk clerk let us play a game in the lobby on their round oak table. All baths seem to be new with Jacuzzis and showers. I hope to be back when the snow is gone.

Room Tip: Room 202 is a corner room looking out over Lake Michigan and the boat harbor. It has a king bed and...

This is not your average box chain hotel, so if that's what you want, go elsewhere. This is a unique old hotel in a 100 year old building that is haunted. You will enjoy the atmosphere if you like that kind of thing. Think of it as an experience, not just an overnight place. The staff was friendly. The rooms were charming and comfortable. It was like visiting a dear friend for a couple of nights. We enjoyed exploring the rooms and browsing the scrapbook. They do provide coffee, fruit juice, fruits, and bagels in the morning, but there is a breakfast place with more just up the street. You have TV in your room with a number of channels, but you can also choose to sit in the lobby and watch the flat screen there. There are a number of musical instruments you are welcome to try- piano, organ, a cello. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed for the season. If you get up early, walk the block and a half to see the sun rise near the Lighthouse. Lovely setting.

Room Tip: Look at the open rooms if you like before being assigned a room. 310 is haunted.

I travel quite a bit for business and had to book at the Kewaunee after room rates in other areas skyrocketed due to a last minute trip. When I arrived I found the atmosphere to be rather cozy with a very home like feel. The front desk was very friendly and helpful and the rooms were very unique, each one with a totally different look from the next. They actually leave the unused rooms open for their guests to explore which I thought was a nice feature.

In regards to a few of the negatives, the hotel is very old therefore and not insulated well therefore you can here a pin drop from any room. The rooms are not impeccably clean, but I have to say that the sheets were clean as well as everything else however the bead spread did indeed need to be washed or replaced. Other than that, it was not bad.

Lastly, let's touch base on this place being haunted. I am a female that usually travels alone and have actually stayed twice now because I liked it so much the first time. I have seen not heard absolutely nothing at the hotel besides some creaky floorboards from other guests as well as the simple settling noises of a very old building. Now for anyone who has had some strange experiences I'm not discrediting you. I simply have not had any strange experiences or weird feelings in this place and I am the type of person that really needs some solid evidence.

Overall, a neat place to stay with some really cool history.
