My bff and her 2 kids rented a car and drove to Chicago to fly to Miami to take a cruise. What does that have to do with eating at Frank's you might ask? I told her I would pick her up in Chicago and we would do some sightseeing. I got up extra early and made it to Chicago before they had left Miami, but thinking I had some time to kill, I remembered an episode of Triple D and decided to go to Franks. The wait was long, but the "garbage" was worth it. The bad thing was that on the way back to O'Hare, I missed the exit and ended up picking them up about 2 hours late. Good food is worth the drive. Plus Kenosha has a lighthouse.

What an experience!!! It was well worth the 1 hour wait to get a seat and the 1/2 hour wait once our order was placed. The waiter (if you can call him that) was funny, gave interesting history and mostly made the wait seem short. The 'Garbage Plate' breakfast was huge and delicious. Even the home made toast was great. We'll do this again soon, just during the week when it isn't so crowded.

The service is efficient but graceless--just like the food: a "pale" of omelets or fried potatoes. We always take visitors and students to this authentic train car restaurant, as old as the city. If necessary, drop by for a cup of coffee.

Burnt toast, burnt sausage, undercooked hash browns, terrible service, passive aggressive wait staff and owner when confronted. Also, you aren't given a bill. You have to present yourself to the cash register behind several people and then watch a random person ring your order up and "trust" they are charging you correctly. I say this bc when our order was rung up, we thought the total was high. The rude girl re-rang it up aggressively punching the cash register keys and wouldn't you know it, the second time it was $6 less than the initial ring up. Will NEVER go back to this wretched place again.

This teensy restaurant puts out incredibly good food in a building about the size of a single garage. First you get squished into line, then you get squished into a booth (if you're very lucky) or the counter (which gives you a great view of the good prep) and then you wait quite a while for your meal. But it is SO worth it, not only for the huge portions of made-from-scratch food, but for the entertaining staff who keeps the mood happy even though you're squished and waiting. Never has it been so delicious to be over-crowded, over-heated and over-fed!
