Description: Kavarna Coffeehouse is a cafe in Green Bay's Broadway District. We offer a mix of sandwiches, pitas, wraps and salads--using many local ingredients when the seasons cooperate. We have an espresso bar, a full time baker, and a lot of space to get things done--the New York Times called us, "cavernous," in their feature on 36 Hours in Green Bay.

A good place for a coffee and a quick bite of healthy style food along the Broadway block near the bridge that takes you to the Meyer Theater and the Fox River walk. So, whether you walk or drive to get to this place it's a pleasant outing and conveniently located.

The food is very good for the price and there are items available for the gluten intolerant and the vegetarian. Some of it is different and unique to the "old timers" but if you ask the right questions then you will get ready answers.

The ordering process re where to line up and how to obtain your food is not apparent to the newcomer. Again, ask and you shall receive the answers but it is unfortunate that a little signage is not added.

The one disappointment is that we were visiting the area on a Sunday morning and would have liked to get a couple of things from the deli but it was closed. The other is that the style of occupancy and table claiming is very loose so people will tend to linger with their reading material, laptops and mobile devices thereby taking seats from those who are trying to find a place to land.

There was one table available during our visit which was located on the upper level when we were there so we were not circling trying to find a spot. Good thing because the lower level had a group of 8 students working on a project who were not going any place. Don't know how the owners permit this because there was one cup of coffee among them and they were distracting to anyone nearby who may wanted to have a casual pleasant conversation.

In other words, if you're a newcomer there as we were, prepare to be very flexible and ready to roll with the punches as you learn the ways of this business. Whether or not the inconveniences will effect your enjoyment of the food is a matter of individual differences.

“Historic Broadway deli/ cafe and rose water lemonade!”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

My husband and I enjoyed fresh cheese and meat selections from the deli and delicious options from the cafe. Quiet dining areas include street level views of Historic Broadway Street, tables for studying with your laptop, or downstairs dining with an adjacent children's activity area where adults may enjoy conversation together. Local events are advertised and Kavarna may be assisting a local school with a fundraiser, such as selling greeting cards to benefit an art program. Delightful menu options for casual dining and conversation! Must try their rose water lemonade. Fresh glass of lemonade dazzled with edible, dry flower petals.

“Love this place”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

If you want great food and coffee in an atmosphere that is eclectic and fun... you will love this place. My biggest issue is trying to decide which wrap to get and if I should sneak in a dessert. If coffee is not your thing, they have a wide array of tea to choose from as well as smoothies and other beverages. I promise you'll find something you will love!

“Vegetarian food and fantastic coffees!”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

The food is vegetarian. I almost always get the Black Bean Burger with kettle chips. Their Gypsy Vegetable soup is also wonderful, as is their Black Bean and RIce cold salad. The bagel is fresh and rich, the "burger" is hearty and flavorful. Their coffee is roasted in Milwaukee, by Alterra. Rich and roasty, they have four varieties to choose from on any given day. We eat there at least once a month, and are always satisfied.

I have visited here multiple times and always leave impressed. Great atmosphere and a vast array of goodies, healthy AND yummy. The place is always busy which speaks for itself. They also have a place for kids to play which is so thoughtful!
