This was a good restaurant but they were out of the wine we wanted and then overcharged us for the wine we got. Food was great.

My new employer recently had a party for me catered by Hinterland. Food was AMAZING, particularly the sunfish.

So while in Green Bay for the Packers game, had to go see the real deal, and we were NOT disappointed.

We arrived early, and our table was not ready. We relaxed with an adult beverage in the lounge upstairs, which had a) a very capable bartender and b) super comfy leather chairs. My brandy old fashioned sweet was fantastic.

The ambience of the main dining room was super cool. Seemed kind of like an old warehouse. Was slightly, but definitely not TOO loud.

We had the shrimp and pork belly appetizer, which was a unique but awesome combo of flavors. Super yummy, never had pork belly. Also had the beef carpaccio, which could have been seasoned better, but was otherwise ok.

We both had braised short ribs with scallops. Ribs were incredibly tender and came in a very flavorful sauce (veal reduction I believe). Scallops were perfectly done. Came with a mushroom and spinach risotto.

Service was excellent....attentive, but not overbearing.

My sister and I went here a few months later and sat upstairs in the lounge, and had fantastic goat cheese curds and amazing burgers. The burgers were huge and really tasty. At least when we were there, you can buy a round of beer for the kitchen for $8, and everyone in the kitchen gets a beer at the end of the night, which I thought was nice and which I purchased.

The food, beer, and service was all very excellent. Yes, it is a bit pricey but this is the case where you truly get what you pay for. Much of the food is locally sourced and grown/raised sustainably. Well worth the cost.

Hinterland is an expensive (for this area) but very nice restaurant not too far from the storied Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers. The main restaurant is very good and most dishes include local or unusual ingredients. When I look over the menu there is almost always at least one item that is part of the meal that I have not heard of.

You sometimes see members of the Packers here.

They brew a very good selection of beers on premises that are also available locally in stores.

The second floor lounge is relaxing and also serves food, which not many people are aware of. The bar menu is limited in the range of selections but they are all very good and the quantity (and price) is less than what you would get in the main restaurant. For example, they have a few pizzas that are really good and, like the main restaurant menu, have unusual ingredients. The bar menu burgers are very, very good and don;t miss the garlic fries that are also available as an appetizer (for two or three people).

This was my first visit to Hinterland. Atmosphere was fantastic: rough brick walls, high ceilings, and a very nice fireplace in one of the dining areas. And stacks of wood against the walls not only for the fireplace, but for the wood fired grills most of the food is cooked over. There is an excellent selection of craft beers, and a very extensive and eclectic selection of wines. The food was excellent, in taste, presentation, and quantity. There isn't a huge selection menu options to chose from, but there is definitely something for every taste. The host and servers were very friendly, helpful, and timely, with the exception of one who was very quiet and seemed somewhat surly. On the downside, the dinner menu is pricey. However, there is a bar menu with a nice selection of reasonably priced options, including excellent fish tacos.

The Hinterland is not your typical brew pub (think brewpub meets haute cuisine). If you want a typical brewpub experience, go across the street to the Titletown Brew Pub. If you want a fine dining experience, visit Hinterland.
