This place is awesome! The train ride around the grounds was fun, the conductor (guide) was very knowlegeable answered all our questions was very patient with the small children in our group and just made everything more enjoyable. It is so interesting you can go through most of the train cars and engines. There is a display of the various china dinner ware from different rail lines. It is worth th admission price. The only drawback is the gift shop is overpriced.

Was on a trip to Green Bay for the Tall Ships had some extra time and someone told us about this museum. You do not have the be a train fans to enjoy this place it might but not required. It costs to get into the main part and a train ride but you could go there and see the outside exhibits for no cost.

We took our 2 yr old son, who is starting to be interested in trains. He loved it. The train ride was slow so you can see everything and very informative. The museum did not look that big at first, but was huge. Lots of old trains you can walk thru and explore. Will take him back when he is older too. Must see for the GB area.

The previous reviews are pretty accurate. It took me about 2 hours to tour and I stayed for part of the movie. Evenly divided between cars and engines that can be entered vs viewing. They have not been overly restored so appear to be about the same as the day they were parked. I was a little surprised at the cost of DVDs in the gift shop. There were a couple I would have bought if not $30 each!

I'll say up front that I expected more, this being the "national" railroad museum, especially having visited Steamtown in Scranton, PA. That said, the NRM is still a really nice museum and was an enjoyable trip. It was really neat seeing the restored Big Boy and being able to access its cab, along with the cab of many other engines and the interiors of many train cars. The train ride was nice; a little short but at least they take you around twice. We'd definitely go back.
