La Quinta Inn & Suites Milwaukee Bayshore Area
Ranked #1 of 4 Hotels in Glendale
Reviewed November 17, 2011

I stayed at this La Quinta earlier this week, and it proved to be an excellent choice! The staff was helpful, the location was convenient, the furnishings were comfortable, and the room was quiet (which is an absolute must for me) and spacious. (I had the executive king with the microwave and 'fridge.)

In terms of location, the hotel is immediately adjacent to the Kopps custard stand, two blocks from Bayshore (with restaurants, a Trader Joe's, and various shopping options), and just off I-43. The latter provides quick access to Ozaukee County and other parts of Milwaukee.

I would definitely stay here again if I was going to be in the area.

Room Tip: Fourth floor executive suite facing inside.

This La Quinta presents itself well outside and in interior common areas. Very large and comfy breakfast area, not typical for La Quinta. Breakfast itself is pretty basic but typical for La Quinta with juice machine, Belgian waffle machine, cereal, small selection of bagels/muffins, yogurt, hard boiled eggs. I stayed in an executive suite which was large with a king bed, flat screen TV by the bed, large sitting/work area with another TV, and a small separate area with bar sink, counter, minifridge and microwave. Room itself was nicely appointed but some furniture is showing its age. The bathroom could not have been any smaller and needed updating. Room was clean and fresh and HVAC worked well. Have to give the room an average rating due to bathrroom. Hotel is all non-smoking, apparently state law now. Hotel is just down the street from large Bayshore shopping complex. WiFi worked well. Good channel selection on TV.

Room Tip: Don't mix this one up with the La Quinta two blocks down the street.

On a trip with girlfriends we found this hotel and were pleasantly surprised at the size of the rooms for the price. Having a large bedroom and a living room area with a bar/sink was great. The hotel management was very helpful and friendly. Our patio door opened to the hot tub which was great for the 4 of us that wanted to relax. Beds were very comfortable and the rooms were clean. The hotel was in a great area, close enough to downtown Milwaukee and a small shopping center close by with restaurants. The best is that there is a Koop's custard right next door!!!

The location is good being just off the HWY 94 and only a short distance to the lakeshore. Plenty of decent restaurants close by.

We stayed here earlier this year, and we were extremely pleased with our entire stay. The room was clean and comfortable, with a door that opened to the swimming pool. The small fridge, microwave and coffee maker were nice additions to the room. The staff was accommodating and friendly, and they welcomed our dog despite the slushy paw prints she left in the lobby. There was a heavy snow storm during the first night of our stay, and the parking lot and sidewalks outside were quickly cleared. We enjoyed the large selection at the complimentary breakfast bar. When we have out of town guests, we'll definitely recommend this La Quinta.

I'm originally from this area and wanted to stay in familiar surroundings so I picked this hotel after reading the reviews. La Quinta Inn & Suites had a very spacious room on the 4th floor for me facing the front. The room was quiet even though it was fully booked for Summerfest. Here are the pros and the cons:

Pros:
- very close to Bayshore Mall where there are many dining options once you need a break from shopping (the stores are not high-end, just your basic chain stores).
- right next to Kopp's Frozen Custard where they have burgers and frozen custard. Be sure you're in the correct line though because if you're ordering only frozen custard in the grill line, they will send you to the custard line no matter how long you've been waiting.
- conveniently located next to the freeway.
- offers a simple free breakfast.

Cons:
- NEEDS TO BE RENOVATED!! The decor in the lobby is fresh; however, the rooms are from the 80's (old and dated). They're clean but do show wear and tear in places.
- They allow pets and it shows! My white blanket was covered with dark pet hair when I checked in!! Doesn't the housekeeper even care??
- TVs are the big box kind, although I did overhear the manager tell other guests that they've ordered flat screens and are just waiting for them to come in (order new furniture and carpeting while you're at it).

Overall, I wouldn't stay here again until they've renovated the rooms. The advertisements for the La Quinta chain of hotels show a much more appealing room that's modern. However, if you're not picky about the decor or what decade it's from and just want a clean basic room (and I stress basic!), this place will fit your needs.

I would actually give it 2 1/2 starts instead of 3. It's just below average but not poor.

Room Tip: Ask for one on the 3rd or 4th floor facing outside and not the pool (preferably the front).

We found this hotel up the street from the other La Quinta we were going to stay at. The other one was dumpy and our room wasn't ready 3 hours after check-in. This hotel was nice and extremely convenient to everything. At first we were given a room on the first floor - mistake. It was extremely worn-out and worse - the people in the pool kept throwing a ball that hit our window. We moved to the third floor and that was 100% nicer. The room was in much better condition and it was very quiet. Also very much appreciated was the fact we could bring our dog.

Room Tip: don't get a first floor room near the pool
