We took a road trip to a couple area wineries on this horribly hot day. On the way back we stopped at The Monarch for a cool cocktail and and snack. What a great unexpected surprise! They building is absolutely gorgeous, dating back to the early 1900's, with the original bar, back bar and even some tables!
The owner, John and his wife(we met her briefly and didn’t get her name) are delightful people who will share the history of the building and business with you.
For a refreshing drink that is tasty even for non whiskey drinkers.....ask John for his specialty....something like a "baclimber". Their house beer is also especially good.
Beacause of the heat we weren't very hungry, but we couldn't resist ordering a small pizza with mashed potatoes....make sure to add the "meat add ons". So different, and oh so good!
If you are heading up the Mississippi River on the Wisconsin side of the river, whatever you do, do not drive by.....make this a must stop in!

We stopped for the first time Sunday Aug 12. The burgers were great (had the West Coast
(of Wisconsin) burgers). The Irish Potato Soup was hot and creamy probably the best we've
ever had. We were very impressed with the server/bartender. Amber was knowledgeable
friendly, and efficient. When a member fo a very large and somewhat rude group wandered
into the kitchen area, she calmly and politely explained that this was a resticted area ,customers
not allowed, that she would gladly relay any questions for the cook. Met every one with a smile.
We will be back. Have been telling freinds and relatives to stop in as well.

While I enjoyed the Fish and Shrimp, the rest of my table did not take to their food. My daughter took a few bites of her hamburger and wouldn't finish it (and she loves hamburgers). Most of the plates were cleared off the table with food on them. It seems like a nice old Irish bar, maybe next time we'll go for a beer.

While we do not specialize in hamburgers, we certainly try to do our best and match the rest of our menu selections with quality foods, preparation and service. My apologies to your daughter if we failed to meet her expectations or memories of other meals. I hope you may stop by if you are ever in our area again and give us another chance. Your feedback will be considered and addressed where needed.
