“Great Place To Stay!”
Reviewed July 9, 2009

We stayed at the Abbey Resort on June 19th for 2 nights. The property was well kept up and beautiful. We had a room on the second floor that had a view of the pool. The room was clean and being on the 2nd floor we had vaulted ceilings that made the room feel much more spacious. The staff around the resort was friendly and helpful. Check In / Out was quick and painless with the small exception that their printers were not working when we checked out and we were told that they would email us a copy of the receipt, well I never received that even after a couple calls requesting it. (the room however was charge correctly) All in all a great trip and we will be back!

My family and I got away for the 4th of July weekend at The Abbey, the place is beautiful and appears to be recently renovated. We had trouble with the staff from the day we booked our trip a couple of months ago. Their website appears to have been assembled as an 8th grade school project, and we received an awesome rate, which they later said they entered incorrectly and wanted to deny the reservation. After several days of back and forth they finally agreed to honor their advertised rate. At check in we were offered a daily list of activities, one of which was a poolside massage 20mins for $20, which they decided to not offer at the last minute and not bother to advise anyone and we waited for 1hr by the tent where it was to be set up. After calling the front desk and the spa they finally agreed to settle on 20mins for $24 and chairside only. Not quite the same. My room, which was beautifully appointed offered tea and coffee. I requested to swap out the tea instead of 2 of each blended and herbal, 4 of the herbals. Which they did and then charged $2.00 to my room afterwards. The next morning I arrived at the adult pool at 7:10am, according the book in the room pool hours are 7am-11pm. I was accosted by 3 staff members who arrived to inform me that the pool is open at 8am and suggested maybe the book was old, but that they would allow me to stay. The attached condo residences has a "special" resident who apparently has free reign of the grounds and followed all the guests around throughout the weekend and hung around the hallways and doorways and even the parking lot writing down license plate numbers. That was a little disturbing. All in all we enjoyed our stay, I would probably come back again. As a consumer it was a little frustrating dealing with the staff and their lack of customer service skills. As a travel professional, I would be hesitant to recommend to some of my customers who have higher expectations of resort destinations.

My wife & I and our son have been to the Abbey 2 times this year. It is a fantastic spot for several reasons. It is 90 miles away from downtown Chicago and easy to get to for a weekend. The entire resort is totally redone and has great guest rooms, great restaurants, and a huge adults only spa that has been revamped. This resort has so much to do it is overwhelming. Great property right on Lake Geneva. Boats to rent, 3 outdoor pools, all sorts of games and activities. They also have live music with great bands. We saw a band called 3D that was an awesome cover band- 80's, 90's, 00's.

The best thing about the resort is how friendly everyone is--from the staff and even the other guests. It is a good value for us. We are budget conscious and the local trip saved us on airfare. The room rates were good and the activities were mostly free.

I didn't realize until this year that the resort was totally redone until our friends went up for a wedding last fall (would be a great place for a wedding) and told us about it. Glad they did!

The Abbey is by far the best place to stay on the Geneva Lake. From the beautifully landscaped grounds to the newly remodeled rooms, there is no place that even compares. Right from the very start, you are greeted by friendly staff and made to feel welcome. They let us check in a couple hours early with no hassle and we were in the hot tub and pool in minutes! What a great pool area they have. There are actually 3 different areas at the outdoor pool. The adult pool is so nice and quite you could easily spend a relaxing afternoon out there. Then there is a seperate pool area for kids. One area for the very small kids and another for the older kids with slides and basketball hoops and other things to play on. There is always a staff person on hand to take care of all your needs. And for the cloudy, cool days there is an indoor pool that is just as nice. One thing that cannot be said about this resort is "There's nothing to do" Everywhere you look there is something, and almost all is free to the guests. There is an arcade room with a pool table, ping pong table, and lots of arcade games. Right outside the arcade is a video room with a giant screen and cushy couches. The smell of fresh popcorn draws you in. They have board games set up at different tables along a wall of windows. You forget how fun they were to play when you were younger! One thing I noticed was they have a lot of activities for kids but while you stay at the resort, you don't even notice them.
They have great restaurants and some places to eat within walking distance. Also you can walk to the beach, to rent a boat or just walk on a path along the shoreline to see many of the beautiful homes in the area.
The rooms are great with a hall entrance and a door to your patio with your own chairs and table. A room refrig and microwave make it easy to have a snack when you want. Beds are comfy with extra pillows. Very clean and bright and everywhere you look are great pictures of boats, especially the wood boats which this area is known for.
Would recomend this place to all! It was a great trip. Great Job to all the people who make the Abbey what it is!

I recently spent 3 days at The Abbey. The renovated facilities are incredible and the staff was friendly and accomodating. The pool areas were wonderfully maintained and provided all the amenities. What a great 3-day experience!

Stayed here last year with a work group. The rooms are really nice, although they sent us to the wrong room initially, and unfortunately the housekeeping staff couldn't help us out, due to a language barrier. I recommend this hotel. Gorgeous grounds, nice pool area and restaurant.

One note: People definitely play the towel game with the pool chairs here, and it got really crowded, especially around noon. Could have been the wedding group that added to the crowd, but just a word of warning...

I can't tell you how great the service is at this place. They literally bend over backward to help you. We threw some serious curve balls at them in terms of requests and there was nothing they wouldn't do. We wanted to take a bike ride, they found us bikes and let us use them for free! We asked for directions home, they gave us 3 routes just in case we wanted to take a side visit or in case we hit traffic. Thats not even to speak of how clean the place is, and how much stuff there is to do. The Abbey is completely self-contained, you never have to leave. This place is on the southwest side of the lake, which is away from the town of Lake Geneva, which we found great, yet only a 15-20 min ride to down town. We will definitely visit again.
