Dismal clone of the downtown location. Found the non happy-hour beer prices to be quite high relative to what you can get elsewhere. Food was also substandard and on the high side for prices. And, they decided their policy is not to follow the WI law that allows children to drink with parents. Apparently they think they have more judgement than I do?

Much better alternatives in Fitchburg.

There are several branches of this restaurant/brewing pub in and around Madison - This review refers to the one in the downtown location. They do have indoor seating, but I opted for a table in the nice beer garden behind the building. Service was prompt and very friendly. They have a good variety of their own beers (the Koelsch was my favorite of the ones I tried), and they serve a variety of Wisconsin/Madison specialties (fried cheese curds; poutine) and regular food (salads, sandwiches etc.). Absolutely worth a visit!

We had a large party (16 people). The service was good but a few of the dishes were not so good. Two of us had the enchiladas. They came out a little on the dark side & were dry.

I stopped in the brew pub for lunch while traveling for business in Madison. Food was good and the atmosphere was great. Prices were not overly expensive. Large menu with plenty of options. I had a burger and it was excellent.

Met a bunch of old friends at the Great Dane-Fitchburg last night for drinks and dinner. First 2 of us met at the insider main bar for a beer. As always the selection is pretty extensive and the bartenders are more than happy to give you a small taste of 3 or 4 of the current brews so you can make a decision. The new IPA was great and I am not a big IPA fan - that is I do not really care for real "hoppy" beers and this was mild enough for my tastes.

Balance of our party finally came and we moved outside to the Patio Bar. Terry took care of us at the bar, if you need a bartender with knowledge of the Dane, their products and Madison in general he is your guy. After about 30 minutes a large table opened up for our group of 8 and we sat down. The server (sorry I forgot her name but she was VERY efficient) came right away, checked our drinks and provided menus.

It's Wisconsin and it was a Friday night so of course we all had fish - 2 lake perch, 2 cod and 2 walleye. Perch and cod came with fries while the walleye came with hashbrown patties. All the food was great bust was a bit surprised that the "pan-seared" walleye came lightly batterd. Not that the taste was bad but just seemed a bit odd. Also lake perch are not large fish and for $14.00 you got 3 pieces. Seemed a bit chintzy, even 4 would have been a bit better.

Changed over to the Dane's old standby beer - Crop Circle Wheat and as always it was tasty. The great thing about the Fitchburg site is they have a very inventive brewmaster and also the smallest fermentation tank of any of the Great Dane sites so they are willing to take a chance on some unique items. Their barleywine a while back was smooth and potent.

Food is good but not spectacular, the beer always fresh and the staff always takes care of you in the - there when you need them but not too pushy style and in the Summer the patio is a great place to while away a few hours in the evening with friends
