We have stayed at the Xuroy a couple of times now & for a relaxing, switch off Sunshine break you cannot ask for more. The setting is just beautiful with a picture postcard view from every angle which we never tire of looking at.
Hotel - spotlessly clean, great value on a half board basis. Yes, if you buy lunch there it can be pricey as can the drinks but no more so than the equivalent Hotel in somewhere like Cornwall with that sort of view and there are a couple of other local places you can eat with very reasonable prices.
Rooms- spotlessly cleaned each day - no there isnt a TV or tea and coffe - take a travel kettle & a portable dvd player!! Best rooms are the sea facing ones - the only travel agent you can pre-book these through are Thomas Cook - you can email & request one and of they have one free for your stay you can at a 5 euro per person surcharge - well worth it to sit on the balcony & look out at the pretty cove. They also do self catering apartments here behind the main hotel which are also nice & still have access to all the facilities
Staff - we have found everyone freindly & cheerful & very helpful on each stay & they work bloomin hard all day!
Location - its all about peace and quiet - dont stay here if you want nightlife, karaeoke bars and entertainment.
Food - I know quite a few folk have grumbled about this but please remember how much this costs for Half Board & again, the stunning location you are in. Breakfast is a buffet of a couple of cereals, toast, pastries & yes, processed cheese slices, continental meats & rolls. There is a little self grilling machine & bowl of tinned tomatoe type mix & actually with the cheese grilled on top its very nice! Dinner is again a self serve buffet & we were very happy with the selections every evening. Yes there were chips every nnight bar one (little roasties) but that suits my other half who is a bit non adventurous! salad every evening, a fish dish, a meat dish (chicken with tomatoes & peppers, slices of roast beef, lamb stew, pork chops) also a pasta dish or rice dish (paella, ravioli, tuna pasta bake) & another dish which could be a bit random - meatballs, chicken wings, croquettes. There are bread rolls & soup each evening and a choice of about 3 puds - rice pudding, creme caramel or cake, baked fruits, fruit salad (yes tinned) or a jelly and then also a freezer with individual tubs of ice cream. Again all is help yourself.
We felt it was a great selection given the value for money & the fact this is not billed as a four star hotel & were perectly happy & full each evening!
Pool - lovely Pool area with plenty of sun beds
Beach - stunning little beach with lovely water to swim in
Area - its a short walk to nearby S'Algar where there are more bars and restaurants, a slightly longer harder walk to Punta Prima if you want a busier more traditional 'Brits abroad' location & a ten minute car or bus ride into the bigger town St Luis ( good supermarket & Tabac to get your ciggies to bring home - much cheaper than the airport!)

We would recommend this hotel to couples, we are in our late 30s and yes, most guests were of a retirement age, or families with small children - for a quiet relaxing break in a beautiful location. We will definitely stay here again & really do think this place is a little gem

Room Tip: told only Thomas Cook can prebook sea view rooms

Having read mixed reviews about the hotel and location, I began to worry that we had made a mistake by choosing to go here. However when we arrived, our breaths were taken away by the location - it was picture perfect and the pictures online don't do it justice. The hotel is basic, and yes the receptionist is a bit rude and not interested but we didn't plan to spend much time with him so it really doesn't matter! The pool is lovely, we spent most of our time by it, rather than the beach. Each day we would walk across to the next town to get lunch - It's not a public footpath, it's quite rocky but only about a 15 minute walk, so just wear sensible shoes! The food each night was tasty, fairly basic again but please remember that this is a 2 star hotel!! We really enjoyed our stay here, we are both in our early 20's and didn't feel as if we needed something to fill our time - We loved admiring the views, sitting by the pool and soaking up the sun. Definitely going back again next year!

Booking here was a mistake........booking here a week before the season closed was a bigger mistake.......The resort was in shutdown mode, as were the waiters at the hotel - I would describe them as totally disinterested at best and downright rude and ignorant at worst, not to mention a small hygiene matter when one sneezed into his hands, then continued placing napkins on the tables in the dining room.
Sure, this is only a 2 star and I know you usually get what you pay for - but the package wasn't especially cheap - and the rooms, whilst clean, were tiny, no tv, no fridge, no kettle, no hairdryer - local dogs barking intermittantly at night woke us on a few occasions.
Now, on to the food..............basic beyond belief continental breakfast...........the same every day, choice of 2 cereals, local muesli or local cornflakes, full fat milk only.
2 fruit juices available, not fresh and VERY sweet.
Bread, or it's alter ego toast, processed ham, processed cheese, processed salami,
cold croissants or some other kind of cold, sweet bread. for 7 days.......yum.
Evening meal - Chips the only form of potato on show for the whole week. Everything else, unless obvious, was guesswork, no menu, no individual identification, no obvious vegitarian option - Ten minutes was our average time in the dining room - we just couldn't wait to get out, it was so awful - and we were not asked once, in the whole stay, if we would like a drink with our meal - water or otherwise - I know........I have a tongue in my head....but some things are just bloody basic, and that's the whole point - The Xuroy doesn't even rate as basic - because it's staff can't, won't, don't perform to a basic level.
Don't go..........unless you read another review after this with the heading....New owner, New staff, New menu.

Hotel Xuroy and location are great, if you have the right room!!
We requested a "quiet, mid-floor" room but were allocated a NOISY, ground floor room.
The ground floor element was fine as there is no crime and we were able to leave the door open at night, (the main reason we request a mid floor room especially where there is no aircon).
But noise. Started at 8am as we were next to the hotel laundry room, no siesta for us either as we were next to the pool, which doesn't close until 8pm. Between 5-8pm the local kids come in and use it for divebombing.
Although some of the rooms were fine ours was obviously an original feature, never updated since the hotel was built. it was really small, one of our cases had to stay in the bathroom!!
The bath and toilet were shabby and the wardrobe door was broken, but the rep disappeared after the first morning and didn't return until the day before we left.
We didn't want the hassle of moving but would warn future travellers that requests are not listened to - we checked in late at night and so weren't able to tell that the room was noisy - don't accept a room facing the pool if you want any peace and quiet.
All of the Thomson'sguests were in better rooms but the price was the same.
That said the food was fine and the location is idyllic, but there is nowhere else to go at night, just 2 other small bars, Piccolo does good afteroon food.
We would return but only if we could guarantee a better room. We didn't want to pay the supplement for a sea view as we didn't want a seaview, we just wanted what we asked for..... a quiet room.
Needless to say we didn't get a survey form to fill in as the additoinal problem was our flight, Icelandic Airlines, and we had to return to the uk via Majorca to pick up some other travellers. I have posted this on the Thoms Cook wesite but have had no response from them so here it is for the world to see.
Go to this hotel but DON'T THOMAS COOK IT

Went mid August 2010, Xuroy is next to nice sandy beach at the end of 500m rocky inlet. Superb swimming, many small fish and a small octopus! Quiet village, 1 corner shop, 2 restaurants. Bus to Mahon about 2 hourly (E1.60), couldn't get thru to taxis (v busy). Booked a DOUBLE but got a TWIN room. Breakfast v basic, evening meal acceptable -just. Staff friendly. Hotel restuarant/bar expensive. Surrounding area is nature reserve, good for walking with a few v small beaches/inlets. S'Algar 10/15 mins walk away has supermarket. Room basic, no phone, no AC. Either put up with rattling fan, or sleep with doors open. En-suite OK. New towels and room made-up daily. Not many mosquitos. Pool OK -could usually get a sunbed. Take plenty of cash as Xuroy won't bill to your room number and minimum card amount E25 and they won't run a tab. Once you get over how basic it all is, you can relax and enjoy!

We wanted to get away from it all, we don't like big loud hotels with entertainment etc, so chose the small hotel Xuroy for a quiet week. The hotel is set in a quiet bay, full of fishing boats. The view from the hotel is stunning, make sure you book a sea view, rooms at the back of the hotel can be a bit dark.
The only downside is the food, rather boring repetative buffet in the evening, breakfast is ok, bring coffee bags as they have rather a nasty machine for tea/coffee, it does give hot water. The toaster takes ages and there was often a long line of people waiting! I would also advise you to bring a travel kettle for your room for tea/coffee.
The hotel bar/restaurant has a lovely setting but can be expensive. We found the bar/restaurant Picolo Mundi in the village reasonable and the staff really friendly.
You also have to get a sunbed around the pool early as they soon go!
Overall a lovely holiday, we would go back the location is perfect.
