The fish boil is unique to this area. Fresh whitefish is cooked in a something resembling a cauldron behind the restaurant. It sounds dreadful, but the results are delicious! Weather permitting, sit outside and enjoy the show. Call ahead to make reservations, especially on a summer weekend.

After a morning in Peninsula State Park, we stopped in Fish Creek for a late lunch and to enjoy the pretty little town. Pelletier's provided a good lunch and friendly service for a reasonable price.

After lunch, we strolled down the streets and stopped in a few shops. Egg Harbor and Fish Creek are both very nice towns to visit in Door County.

Fish boils are a Door County "specialty" and I had gotten mixed reviews of them from Wisconsin friends. But, liking fish and wanting to try a local specialty I decided to try one and went to Pelletiers based on recommendations from locals.

The decor/ambiance is a very casual, family oriented setting - more toward fast food than fine dining. The fish boil takes 30 minutes to prepare - the potatoes go in first, 10 minutes later the onions, and for the last 10 minutes the white fish are added. This is all explained by the cook as each batch is prepared outdoors over a roaring wood fire.

The resulting dish is two red potatoes, onion, cole slaw, one or two 6 ounce pieces of white fish and the obligatory cherry pie for dessert. The fish is similar to what you get by poaching or microwaving. If you like fish you will most likely like the boiled fish, but be careful eating it as there are bones. The onion and potatoes are what you would expect by boiling. The cherry pie was like a mass produced one you get in a supermarket - the crust was not very good.

In summary it was a good meal, very reasonably priced in a picnic like setting and was a good way to experience a fish boil.

The reason why we decided to go here was on a recommendation of one of our friends. Door County is famous for their Fish Boil so we wanted to try one out. As I said we decided to go here on the recommendation of our friends. They have a little show before the meal. What I mean is that they explain what they are doing and how they cook the food. It was interesting. The meal was good. The meal consisted of white fish caught fresh that day, red potatoes, cole slaw and of course cherry pie.

There are several fish boils in Door county and I wish that we had picked a different one. For a couple of dollars more we could have gotten homemade bread and ice cream with our cherry pie. To add ice cream Pelletier's charged an extra two dollars anyway. Food was not great, but just OK.
I did like sitting next to the window in the back. From there you could see the big kettle over the fire with the next boil in progress. (See Picture)
