We went because everyone said we had to have breakfast there and my boyfriend had eaten there as a kid and his mom insisted we go. He had the nice guy hash and it was very good and I had an eggs benedict. Wait staff was no better than a Denney's...sorry...not very friendly, gave two options for hot tea and brought the wrong one, brought a ketchup bottle that had whipped cream all over the side of the bottle. We had to wait about 10-15 minutes for a table on a Sunday morning which we are told is a short wait time. I'm not sure why anyone would really want to wait. Chef's Hat had a better breakfast the day before and no wait at all.

We were disappointed after our dinner at the White Gull Inn. Really, we should have left as soon as we arrived. Their website pictures are misleading – their dining room is not a small, cozy rustic room. It is much larger, more like a community center or rec room, not at all romantic. Although, as advertised, the lighting was primarily the tea light on the table, it only made the whole thing more ridiculous, as if a tacky room lit by candles is suddenly a romantic haven. We were seated in what was apparently the Easter corner. It seems that this time of year, the White Gull Inn feels the need to dress the window sills and other surfaces with tacky festive decorations, including sparkling over-sized eggs, plastic bunnies, and towers of pastel colored objects. THIS is fine dining? They certainly try to convince of you of it with their prices. We started with the brie. Not bad. But the entrees were awful. Given that it is a meat and potatoes kind of place, you would think they could at least cook the meat well. We got the steak and the duck – both were overcooked and dry, the sides were uninteresting (nothing like a scoop, literally, of mashed potatoes on your plate - classy). It was a 1950s notion of fine dining at 2013 prices. We should have just stuck with the wine and the appetizer. Should have. Don’t make our mistake! Save your foodie money for the city and instead enjoy what Door County does well – pubs and pizza.

We have eaten many times at the White Gull Inn. It has the most beautiful dining rooms in Door County. The decor at Christmas season is particularly lovely. The location at the quiet end of Fish Creek, a short distance to the bay, is charming. The food is dependably delicious, and the service is always professional and solicitous, if not always warm and fuzzy.

For lunch, soups are great and rarely disappoint. They change daily, so it's hard to recommend a regular favorite. The Asian salad with cashews is standout, as are the burgers. The bread is home made and sinfully good. The place is justly famous for breakfast dishes, some served all day. Check out the Sunday lunch specials -- delicious comfort entrees such as ham, pork, baked chicken.

This is a really civilized place to dine, not frenetic, and particularly good for breakfast and lunch, which are also very good value. Dinners are good, too, but very expensive. The place gets a little snooty in the evening for our taste.

Kudos to the owners for being open 3 meals a day year round -- a great service to the peninsula. They now beat out Al Johnson's in this respect.

We always look forward to our return visits to the White Gull Inn.

I don't get all the hype about this place? I found the food to be average, nothing amazing. Ordered eggs Benedict and eggs were overdone and it wasn't that good..my husband got the stuffed French toast which was good in small quanities.

Every traveler to Door County should make a stop at the White Gull Inn for breakfast. It's the best breakfast around. Highly recommend the hash browns, coffee cake, omelettes, pancakes and their hot chocolate is dreamy! Comes in a special pot loaded with whipped cream. For those of us who are non-coffee drinkers, it's a treat. Be prepared to wait on the weekends - it's very popular.
