We stop and make a project every year when in Door County. The projects are fairly easy and there is enough staff to assist if you should have any sort of questions. It is even fun just stopping and looking around! Some of the projects may sound a bit pricy but watching our kids create some art and enjoying some real quality family time is priceless. Kids were never bored as they set the pace of the project. The atmosphere is fun, inviting, and really gets your creativity flowing. So much fun! So happy we found this place! Make sure you do this activity the first days of your trip. Some projects are not available for pick up until the next day (pottery etc.) Arrive early! We had no problem late morning but the place was very busy later the next day when we picked our project up in the afternoon.

sometimes-sadly-it actually rains in fish creek during the summer...having options besides the obvious--enjoying the local eateries or shops--really helps to keep a vacation "on track"!!! Hands On art Studio is just such a place to go--rain or no!!! The studio is open daily year round (winter weekends only-making the locals happy, also) with hours now from 10am to 6pm. There is also an "adult-21 years or older" night every Friday from 630pm until 10pm--you can "BYOB"/or snack to enjoy as you work on your art project. Live music is also offered on these nights from local musical talents, making Friday night a fun, creative, entertaining way to start another great weekend in Door County. Other popular offerings currently ongoing are the Art Camp for kids (one or more days), The Silo Project Pages, and Art Days For Animals--a Door County Humane Benefit to be held during the Pumpkin Patch weekend in October--with seasonal projects to enjoy such as pumpkin painting and scarecrow making!!! You don't just have a good time at Hands On Art Studio--you change lives and take home memories and creative mementos!!! Definitely a "must-do" for any Door County traveler!!!

We went here not really knowing what to expect. Got there right at 10am (I recommend you go early, it appears to get quite crowded as the day goes on). The two of us (both adults...okay...kids at heart) had hoped to do the metal sculpting but after a less-than-friendly reception in the metalworking building (perhaps they thought women couldn't weld) we headed over to the mosaic area and settled in there. A few hours later, projects complete, we went on our way. Project pickup is the next day for some of the stuff. make sure you know that before you start. There is food and drink available for purchase although I question the safety of eating and drinking in an art studio.

The project areas appreared to be standard-fare in terms of supplies, options and prices. Most of the staff was great, helpful for the kids and us kids at heart. There is a building for ceramics, jewelry, glasswork, mosaics, painting and of course the metals building with the angry men. The clientele are mostly families with kids (in the summer, most from Illinois) but if you know that going in, then it's not too annoying. They also have "adult nights" which look to be fun for us elderly folks.

My recommendations would be - 1. Be prepared to go early. 2. Be prepared to spend more money than you thought (but that's not a bad thing), family bonding and all that 3. Be prepared for many kids and cats in the art studios 4. Be prepared to get crative and have fun! 5. Be warned that you will likely spend more TIME here than you thought. Do not book your day too full. As i said, we went right at 10, I thought we would be there an hour. We were there close to three.

I took a group of 14 to the Art Studio. We all were astounded by the art and gardening outside. Everything was so gorgeous, you couldnt keep our eyes on one thing without being distracted by another beautiful sculpture or piece of art. The group's budget paid for the $7/person materials cover charge so the art items were affordable! It was really great to let the kids roam around and choose their own art to design. We all really enjoyed the hours we spent there!!! The staff was VERY helpful and so friendly. Amazing atmosphere

We went with our four kids and spent 2.5 hours on mosaics which we will take home with us as a. great memory of our trip to Door County. The place alone is worth seeing, even if you don't do a project. If you have kids that work faster than others, they can go play on the playground. The price is a little steep, but all the art is grouted and ready to pick up the next day!
