“Kayak Tour - Fun for all Ages!!”
Reviewed August 15, 2011

This is a great tour for kids and adults. We had no kayak experience at all, but the guide gave us instructions, helped us get in the water, and kayaked with us (even taking photos). You get to view the scenery from the water, experience the caves from the inside (backing into the caves is highly recommended!), and get some "fun" exercise!! This was one of the most enjoyable tours that we did in Door County and we would do it again. Don't hesitate if you have never kayaked - we did it and it was awesome!!

We are novice kayakers, took a private tour to the caves. It was wonderful. Water conditions were perfect, Brode and Emma rock!

“Great family activity”
Reviewed July 10, 2011

We went out with a group of 9 people - two families - with 5 kids ranging from age 7 to age 13 and we all had a great time. The college age guides did a great job helping us along and even though they were young, they were very confident in what they were doing and made sure everyone was safe and having fun. They did seem to overbook on the holiday weekend and we were with a family that wanted to do some more advanced kayaking. Since we were all beginners, we just ignored them and went at our own pace. It wasn't a problem at all. I will say it was a lot for our 7 year old but the two 13 year olds went in their own kayak and did great the whole way. They were a little slow but they made it and had fun.

“Great time for beginning kayakers”
Reviewed June 3, 2011

My husband and I have kayaked casually in small lakes before, so we had an inkling of what to expect. We opted for the Bluff tour up north in Gills Rock(?). We were the only couple on this particular excursion that day. After a brief training session on staying upright and the proper way to paddle, we were off for (I believe) a two hour tour at our own pace, paddling among the beautiful bluffs in the cool water. Let me say that our young guide and his assistant gave GREAT personalized service to us. They were very friendly and knowledgeable about nature and the area, answering our questions on birds, petroglyphs, fishing and the like, even taking our photo with a waterproof camera. Afterwards, at the guide's recommendation, we ate lunch at the Sandpiper restaurant, as we were absolutely FAMISHED from the trip! We'd like to go back for the Cave trip soon.

“Good outfitter for first time kayakers, not so much for experienced kayakers”
Reviewed August 1, 2010

We've kayaked plenty of times before, but not in Door County so we picked DCKT based on the reviews. Their prices are decent, but their "tours" seemed to be geared towards people who have never kayaked. They use tandem sit on top kayaks w/out rudders so it's like trying to paddle & steer a log, not that easy. A sit in kayak is much easier to get around on the water and it's more stable, but they probably use the sit ons because people feel safer if they'd tip.

At the landing, the guide gave a brief lesson on paddling, then handed out some water cannons, we came to paddle, not get soaked by someone's kid. That got old really fast. Once on the water, the guide didn't do much, matter of fact I don't think he said anything to us the whole time we were out. He was also supposed to take pics of everyone in the group, but when we got on the bus and he plugged in the card, turns out he only took a few of half the people on the water, whoops.

I'm real torn on recommending them, if you're never gone before they're a good option, but if you've been out a few times, try a different outfitter or rent some kayaks and head out on your own.
