Less than average "food"
I attended Shanghai Bistro in Eau Claire, WI on a Friday evening during Happy Hour. Though the food was reasonable and satisfied my appetite, the service was insulting.
Our food took over an hour to arrive at our table after ordering. In the meantime, our server, Anna, only stopped by once (after the first 20 minutes) to say the sushi bar was backed up. Though the speed of the food was not her fault at all, her failure to supply us with water and apologies throughout the hour we were waiting was insulting, to say the least, especially because we were one of only several parties at the establishment. When a new member of our party joined the table, which we had informed our server of ahead of time, it took half of an hour for her presence to be acknowledged by our server and her order taken.
After calmly extending our dissatisfaction to Anna, the server, she said she would send a manager over per our request for one. However, we had to repeat our request upon the arrival of our bills for an actual manager to be sent over.
When the manager came, he failed to introduce himself, and he made no effort to resolve our dissatisfaction. He did not even apologize.
Anna said that she could not provide us with any compensation and that any dissatisfaction we had with her service or lack thereof would have to be reflected in the amount of gratuity we would choose to leave her. Yet, Anna brought us our bills with an 18% gratuity included.
Bottom line, if you care at all about service, do not waste your time visiting the Shanghai Bistro.
