The Court'n House doesn't look like much from the outside, but when you walk in the door, you are generally hit with the wonderful, magnetic smell of great hamburgers.

They aren't oversized, perhaps, but they are incredibly good and filling bar burgers. Straightforward and juicy, with a touch of crispiness (though that may be from the bun - I think they throw those on grill those, too). Thursday nights are two for one - an incredible bargain.

There are a variety of standard configurations, though most condiments and toppings like lettuce and tomato are 25¢ each. (Mustard and Ketchup are on the table.) I see people getting the ribeye special on Saturdays and it looks good, but I just keep coming back for the burgers. Two of us can get out with sodas (my husband loves their fountain root beer), burgers and fries for under $20, with a generous tip.

There's only one other place I go for burgers in Eau Claire - we split ourselves 50/50 on where we go. The only thing that keeps us from eating here more often is that sometimes it's very crowded (especially Thursday or weekend nights), and you have to wait an hour or more. Normally it's not a problem, but it can be a crush since there's not a huge amount of seating. With the bar filled, there's just no place to stand and wait.

But it wouldn't be crowded if it wasn't that good :)

Most everyone will rave about the burgers (yes!), but I also think their steak sandwich is terrific, and Friday Fish Fry is great. Thursday and Friday evenings are usually packed, so expect a wait. Clientele is mixed with business/professional and young adult/college students providing a vibrant atmosphere. Lunch is usually not too busy, so you can enjoy a great burger while watching a "slideshow" of Eau Claire history, dating back to the 19th century. Family operation, with two daughters gradually taking over for Dad & Mom - all friendly and hard-working.

When you first walk in, the Court'n House looks like an old neighborhood bar that could use a good refurbish. But then, you order your food that seems to arrive almost instantly, and you know they've put their priority into the quality of their food! EXCELLENT burgers and cheesecurds. Don't let their looks fool you!

I love the 2 for 1 burger deals Thursday night - great deal, although the bar is packed! Usually takes a long time for food, but like I said, it is completely full in there, and you can tell the servers are doing the best they can. Great place to hang out and chat with friends while waiting for your incredibly cheap, delicious burgers to come out. They also have veggie burgers, which is great. Very cheap deal.

This bar is unique. The food is tremendous. Love the 2fers for Burgers on Thursday night. Can't make these at home as delicious. Great happy hour.
