We came to Eagle River for the Vintage Snowmobile Derby, and stopped at the White Spruce Inn for supper on Friday night. The staff there is courteous and friendly. The building itself is an old log home that is charming, and decorated with homey type country decor, but for the very casual atmosphere and setting, menu prices were overall ridiculous. The average menu prices ran $20-$29 per dinner, which for this type of establishment was WAY out of line. (We actually wondered if they had raised their prices just for the derby.) They had only one reasonably priced menu selection, which was the $12.50 all you can eat fish fry. If you chose the baked fish, it was dry and pretty tasteless, but the beer batter fish was honestly very tasty. Their clam chowder was delicious.
Overall though, the food is not prepared nor presented in any elegant fashion, to be very honest, the following night we dined at the Friendship House Family restaurant, which is just down the road, and is sort of like a "Country Kitchen" kind of place, and had a) MUCH better food b) larger portions c) menu prices that were almost 1/3 the cost of that of the White Spruce Inn's d) friendly attentive service. I don't mind spending more at a nice restaurant, but White Spruce Inn in no way shape or form qualifies as an upper scale establishment.

We are from out of town and had a hard time chosing a place for Mom's birthday. We are very happy with our final choice.1) The atmosphere and historic setting are real old northwoods lovely, without the fake pencil thin perfectly formed logs, 2) House wines excellent and cocktail good, 3) The server was polite, attentive, neat and friendly (something that's either seriously lacking or over done to nausea these days), 4) The salad bar is small and simple, but has the best French dressing we've had in some time, 5) The menu was nicely rounded, light or hearty and my husband appreciated the "man friendly" choices versus "art" food that he dreads. 6) The prime rib was done precisely to our orders, rare, medium rare and well done was tasty without any after dinner distress this rich beef can have when over seasoned. 7) We could ACTUALLY HEAR each other talk! We'll all be back again and look forward to dining outside next summer.

My family of 3 went for a fish fry and it was great. We arrived in Eagle River late on a friday after a long 6 hour drive and we were so pleased with everything. We enjoyed it so much we went back for lunch before our long ride home. We will be back next summer for sure. The corn beef sandwich was the best I have had in years!

We went to the White Spruce Inn for a delightful birthday dinner while traveling in Eagle River to visit friends and family. The service was wonderful and the staff was very pleasant. The food was excellent, extremely tasty and priced affordably. No one in our party had one single complaint, we were a group of 18 who made last minute reservations and they had no problems accommodating our party. The new owner was very helpful and made our experience one of absolute pleasure. The view from the restaurant was very nice over looking the Chain. The outdoor seating and access from the river was another bonus that we will use on future pontoon rides. The Bloody Marys were outstanding. It was a wonderful experience and the live entertainment was an added bonus. If you have a chance to visit I highly recommend this place and have added it as a "must" on all my future Eagle River trips.

Please, please do yourself a favor and do not consume anything prepared by the chef at the White Spruce Inn at Eagle River, Wisconsin. A friend of mine and I were extremely ill for three days with food poisoning that was traced back to the soup served at this North Woods restaurant. He and I were the only two in our party to consume the chicken soup. Our four day vacation was ruined as this happened the first night. After a trip to the ER at the local hospital documented our illness, we called the restaurant several times and the owner has decided that a lame second-hand apology is all she can muster. And to think, the only thing we asked for was a donation to the American Cancer Society!
