My husband and I dined there this last Saturday and had a memorable, delicious meal worthy of every dime we spent on it, especially when compared to comparable meals in the area, which I will explain soon.
We chose soup instead of salad for our starter and were rewarded with clam chowder that was so good, it was as good as the clam chowder we had in Nantucket Island and Cape Cod (they call it quahog chowder there because it's made with huge clams called "co-hogs"). It was creamy, rich, flavorful and had a perfect balance of everything and was perfectly seasoned.
Next came our entree of Wicked ribeye and a quarter rack of ribs(we chose the Wicked sauce, which is spicier). This was one of the specials that night. We chose the 16 oz for $26. It was divine. Absolutely tender and aged perfectly with almost no waste-like maybe a couple teaspoons which is unheard of on a ribeye. Ribeye lovers expect waste from fat, but this was so well trimmed and so flavorful that what little fat was on there was devoured because it was so flavorful. The sides were also very good. Vegetable was in season, butternut squash, prepared simply but well and very tasty. The ribs that accompanied the meal at no charge were tender and delicious. I forgot to mention that we had Wicked Alligator bites for an appetizer. These weren't some battered lumps with a dipping sauce. These were expertly prepared with unique seasonings and sauteed and served with crispy seasoned crostini rounds. Very good.
Now to the value of the meal: We had ribeye two other times during our week long stay near Eagle River and Land O Lakes. Once was at Bent's Camp which is known for their atmosphere and food. Sandwiches and stuff are fine there, but skip the pricey for what-you-get meals. We ordered the 14oz ribeye for $22. There was no more than 10 oz on the plate. It was flavorless and loaded with gristle and inedible fat. No way was it aged. I was so angry. Half the steak was waste and the rest was a waste of my time! So consider that value when you get almost a full 16oz of deliciousness for $26 vs MAYBE 5 or 6 oz of substandard beef for $22 and you will see what I am talking about. Plus the incredible stuff that accompanies your meal and you can clearly see where the value REALLY is!!!
We had a memorable evening in a beautiful atmosphere in a gorgeous old log cabin. The cabin itself, from the outside especially, is about as charming and representative of the old up north as you could ever get. We cannot wait to go there again next year. Wish we lived closer. We would go for every special occasion and probably even make some occasions up!! Like "Dying for a great steak" night or "I just need a superb meal" night. Haha. The Northwoods doesn't know how lucky they are to have a chef of this caliber. Bon Appetit!

The ribs were done to perfection and the ability to choose from three sauces made this meal especially tasty. Will definitely order these again.

All I can say is it was worth the wait. It's a small quaint establishment. They know how to cook the food and all of it was delicious. So glad we went.
