The Flour Sack is an unexpected find. The Northwoods is not a location where one can easily find unusual grain or pasta ingredients and / or dried herbs and spices. However, this place offers all of that and more! In addition to an impressive array of baking ingredients and tools, one is able to purchase artisanal cheeses and home-baked goods. And a huge, upright freezer is fully stocked with frozen turnovers (unbeatable), various cookie doughs, bread dough and frozen pies (easily as good as anything one can produce at home). And, if that doesn't do it for you, then sit down in the darling café located at the rear of the store. They serve absolutely scrumptious sandwiches, wraps, home-made soups and "real" salads (the kind with dark green lettuces and fresh herbs). You'd expect all of this to be expensive, wouldn't you? Well, guess what? The staff is lovely and the prices are totally reasonable. If you're planning to visit Eagle River, then a visit here is a great idea.

Does not look like much from the outside, but is very nice inside. Great sandwiches! Not a lot of seating for a busy lunch though. Cute store attached. Service was fine. Soup was excellent!

The flour sack is primarily a specialty food store, carrying fresh spices and hard-to-find supplies and decorative items for cakes, cookies, and baking. The selection of these specialty cooking items is unusually large -- even for a city 100 times Eagle River's size. In addition, there is a deli area with a small but high quality selection of meats and cheeses.

In the back is a small cafeteria area (seats around 25) where you can order sandwiches, salads, and bakery items that are made with local and fresh ingredients, to include some of the very spices and materials found on the store shelves. The food is nicely presented, and is of high quality. Service is efficient and with a smile. The bill is then taken to the register in the front of the store for checkout.

Located in the western part of the city of Eagle River on highway 70, the flour sack is a nice place to grab lunch...and is a great place to find premium ingredients for the perfect home-cooked meal.

They have a great deal of types of flours that are difficult to find in these parts, including pumpernickel. They have a huge supply of cookie cutters. The only thing I have gone there looking for that they DIDN'T have was expresso powder.
