The House on the Rock Inn

We travel somewhere each year on my birthday. The House on the Rock Inn proved to be a welcome retreat for my wife and myself. I do recommend the Inn, especially if it is your birthday. The nearby town of Spring Green offers presents and discounts for your birthday, including a free tour of House on the Rock and Talesin. There are also packages available for tours to the House on the Rock.

THE HOUSE ON THE ROCK INN is the perfect companion place to stay when visiting this area. Staff is pleasant & helpful. Guests are friendly & courteous to eachother. Rooms are very clean & well stocked with necessities. Temperatures are appropriatly adjusted for each area. Pools are consistently monitored for cleanliness and water quality. An abundant supply of clean, folded towels are conveniently located nearby; all soiled towel are removed regularly. Continental breakfast is provided to guests from 7-9AM. During our stay, 'Rose' was consistently attentive to all food areas, ensuring everything was kept stocked & cleaned. Various food options are available for purchase throughout the day; all of those we sampled were good. From here, you can tour THE HOUSE ON THE ROCK attraction which is well worth the price of admission. A MUST SEE of you've never been and it's only 7 miles down the road. Gov. Dodge State Park is nearby and you can rent horses if you like to ride them from across the street of the park.

We booked this hotel at the last minute when we decided to take our kids to the House on the Rock. We just wanted a nice hotel to go back to where our kids could swim. We got a great deal on the room plus HOTR tickets and found the room to be clean and comfortable. It is not a high end hotel but doesn't bill itself as one either. My kids loved the pool room which I found to be exceptionally clean and comfortable. The kids loved playing in the sub and I liked swimming in the pool which was very warm. Overall, this was a great place to stay with elementary age kids.

You and your kids will love the pools. Unique and warm!! The rooms however remind me of visiting your grandparents in 1981, dull and old. The breakfast is not worth staying for, unless you like cheap generic cereal. The bottom floor of the hotel where the food is served in the moring smelled of weed and throw up. The breakfast room was having problems and in was stuck on heat at 85 degrees.

We liked it- not super glam, but certainly fit the bill for a weekend getaway. Super nice people, large room, nice pools, clean, and the best bar food ever! The bartender was a hard worker who did a fantastic job- even while pretty busy. Would have been nice to have a waitress, but I understand in this economy, you gotta do what you gotta do to get by. If you need a posh resort, it's not for you. If you want a nice place to stay while visiting the house on the rock and gov. dodge state park (awesome little beaches!) I highly recommend this inn.

Our son (5 yrs) loved the swimming pool - especially the large submarine. We also had a good time in the outdoor pool. Pool was very very clean. There was even a man who made sure that the pool area was sanitized and cleaned. Pool area did not smell like a pool - so someone must be doing their job. We didn't feel dried out after swimming for 2 hours - again a sign that someone must be managing the area.

Room was clean and quite. My only comment is that the Breakfast room is a bit "plastic". Too many styrofoam cups, plates and plastic. Tables are something out of a conference center. I suppose they don't want you to stay too long. The layout and lighting are a bit surreal - could do with a bit more decorating to warm the place up. Breakfast lady was very friendly though.

Staff in hotel were very friendly. Just up the street is a nice restaurant that could be reached by foot in a pinch.

We'll be back.

My family stayed at the Inn and had a great time. The pools/water area is great for kids and the decor is fun if you are visiting The House on the Rock. We had some trouble with the initial reservation and it was handled immediately by a professional and courteous staff who went out of their way to make sure we had a wonderful stay. The rooms are okay for the price and the breakfast is a basic one with something for everyone to find. It is a great spot for families with young children who are sightseeing in the area.
