“One of the best parks in SE Wisconsin”
Review of Lapham Peak

Lapham Peak is part of the State park system and is well designed and maintained (hence the need for a modest entry fee.) There are multiple hiking trails of various levels, lengths and difficulty, plus a paved trail for health challenged individuals. Four parking lots serve the various use areas: a lower lot for access to the hiking trailheads and biking areas, a lot serving the Homestead Hollow shelter, small pond and trails, a large lot serving the recently opened Nature Center, and an upper lot for the observation tower. There is also an outdoor summer stage with weekly performances.

In the winter time there are groomed and lighted cross country ski trails. The Ice Age Trail goes through the center of the park and includes an overnight backpack site (with reservation). No other camping, swimming, boating activity is available. This is a park for people that enjoy a slower, closer to the environment experience

Simple, typical Wisconsin landscape, and indeed very nice. The best thing is climbing the tower. Wisconsin being a tax "hell", I'd expect not to be charged to enter for an hour. Would go again if no charge.

A really interesting place to visit. Grounds are fun to walk around in. And viewing tower is an easy climb.

Lapham Peak is a nice park to go to to get outside of the Waukesha/Milwaukee area. It's not far enough to make it feel like you've gone far. Growing up in the country, I like being in the out-of-doors where there are less people... but, it's not that busy here. So the plus for those in the metro is that they don't have to go far to do some nice day hiking or cross-country skiing, etc. Fortunately (except for them), Milwaukee area residents are not wont to get outside, so the park has never been crazy-busy when I've been there.

Whenever you find an observation tower, climb it. Enjoy the view. The trails are well marked and in very good condition except for a couple spots that are a little more worn out further from the main hub of the park. However, those worn spots are small. I didn't have to dodge huge mud puddles. I have not explored all of the trails, but the ones I was on were nice. The Ice Age trail goes through park, also - f.y.i.

You need to pay an entrance fee or have a WI state park pass to enter. This place is worth visiting if you're looking for nice hiking and/or a good park to visit for part of the day. (I cannot rate all of the amenities - horseback riding trails, mountain bike trails, skiing, etc.)

Nice park to visit and hike the trails. Observation tower is neat to go to top of as it's highest point in Waukesha county so you can see a long ways (provided weathers' permitting).

Nice in fall with colors changing on trees and such too.
