We booked a room here for a getaway since we had stayed here before two years ago and were happy with it then. (other review was from Nov 2008.) Things worked out great then, but not so great this time. What a difference two years makes. As last time, we booked an executive king suite, made up of two rooms. It was tastefully decorated, nothing special. Though, it had two separate rooms with a tv in each, it wasn't as large and spacious as the executive king room we had before. It had the typical one open closet in the center of the suite and small bathroom. Though, it was large enough for two adults and one large dog, it was nothing like the room we had before, and this was a suite. Again, we had a king-sized bed, but this one was totally uncomfortable, as if sleeping on a concrete floor. We were located in the back of the hotel on the lower level. We were the only ones there the entire three day stay. Before we even entered our suite we were met with an overwhelming smell of dampness. Yuck! When we mentioned it to staff, they had no idea what it was. It smelled, as if a combination of urine, water and sweat. Fortunately, it didn't emanate into the suite. Second problem we encountered was with the refrigerator. Though, we had made reservations over a week in advance, it obviously had not been cleaned. When we mentioned it to desk staff, they were horrified, apologized profusely and said it would be cleamed immediately, (which we refused after a long drive in) or tomorrow, which we accepted. Third problem we encountered was that the remote for the living area tv did not work. We obtained 5 different sets of batteries from the desk and never did get the remote to work. We were charged $81.00 a night, this time, which for the lack of spaciousness, hallway smell, and problems encountered was a bit much. There was also a $15.00 per pet fee on top of that. Fortunately, the staff refunded this charge because of our problems during our stay, which we appreciated. At least they admitted their errors and tried to make good. Again, during our two-night stay we were able to glance at the lower priced ‘budget’ rooms and they were much smaller with the bed right up against the wall.

I can't say that I would highly recommend this hotel again, but I can't say that I wouldn't, because it is a bit larger than its competitors and offers more for both guests and pet owners. It is also away from the freeway. The Orange Moose Bar and Grill restaurant on site is worth stopping by. Fine dining it is not. It's casual with a nice view of the small lake out back. Bring your appetite: they fill your plate without breaking your pocketbook. The food is nothing spectacular-plain old fasioned American dining, but it's plentiful. As a vegetarian, it is often difficult to find things to eat when dining out. Not so here. The first night I had the medditerean salad I asked for without meat, no problem, which was tasty and ample. The next night I had the Veggie Lovers Pasta, also without meat, which was also tasty and ample in portion size. They also have a martini bar that they don't advertise, but the drinks are divine. I particularly enjoyed the Sexual Trance, which offers a bit of coconut. The chocolate lovers delight (?) was also tasty.

The complimentary continental breakfast was simple, but adequate yet smaller than two years before with fresh waffles, fruit, cereal, and pastries. The hotel has a fitness center and indoor pool, which is a bit small. The hotel encompasses a few acres with a trail for walking, or snowmobiles just several feet out the back door. The hotel is pet friendly in both landscaping and accommodations. There's plenty of grass and trees and a path around the lake. There's also a small grassy park across the road with another lake, trees and some benches. Our large dog loved it and he’s a jet setter. The property is just off of the highway and conveniently located adjacent to a gas station/convenience store with a Subway and Taco John’s. Perkins is also just outside. Sadly, The nearby Del Bean Coffee and Cheese shop, which was worth a stop two years ago for their tasty, filling sandwiches, no longer sells any kind of restaurant type items. Now, it's basically a coffee and cheese shop. Despite their listing in the phone book and signage out front saying restaurant, they no longer sell sandwiches, etc.

So, after all is said and done. I would probably return or recommend because it is more private and away from the free way, unlike its competitors, yet not too far away from things.

The staff that we met were very friendly and the bar & grill was a very good place to eat. I would stay again and recommend it.

I accompanied my elderly dad to the Arrowhead for a small veteran's convention.
As mentioned before, the room was laid out a bit oddly: the TV was next to the door rather than near both beds. However, it meant that the neighbor's TV couldn't be heard in our room. The rooms were roomy, clean, & included a small fridge & microwave, the beds were comfy.
There was a "fitness nature trail", a picnic area, horseshoe court, & a volleyball net behind the hotel, plus trails popular with ATV users. Inside was a pool & a fitness room with TVs so I could keep up with news while I worked out.
The included breakfast was nice & included scrambled eggs & a meat each morning as well as the usual cereals, muffins, etc.
The food at the restaurant was good, & the staff was quick to resolve problems- mostly non-working key cards (caused by cards being erased by being carried in the same pockets as electronic devices). I had my laptop along & was able to log into hotel internet easily (& free).
There were other places to eat at in the area, a convenience store/gas station) less than a minute away by foot, A Walmart is less than a mile away for things travelers forget, although the hotel supposedly keeps such things on hand.
The meeting rooms for the veterans & auxiliary meetings were spacious & clean, & the luncheons & banquet provided for conventioneers were good, with more than adequate amounts of food.
I only have one complaint. The hotel did not add extra servers in the restaurant at lunchtime during the convention. They were needed because conventioneers descended on the restaurant all at once during breaks in meetings, & overwhelmed the pair of servers on duty.
This is a great hotel for vacationers who want to experience all Wisconsin's north woods areas have to offer, but there isn't much exciting night life in the area.

the best western arrowhead in black river falls is just an okay place to stay. first we will talk about the room. it was a weird set-up as the tv was on the side of the room instead of in front of the beds. if you were on the right side of the room you would have to turn to look at the tv. the beds weren't that comfortable and my brother woke up with a bed bug bite on him. the breakfast was more than just your regular continental breakfast. it had waffles, bacon, sausage, eggs etc. that were all preety good. the restaurant attached to the hotel isnt that good at all, the all you can eat ribs they had were tough as nails. overall the best western was an okay stay but would not stay again.

We stayed here on May 27th, 2010 & were very impressed and pleased with everything! The design of the rooms was excellent, the furniture in the rooms was elegant & different from all other motels, the shower was great, the TV was up so you could see it from the bed, it had a frig and microwave, the beds were very comfortable and we both have back problems. They had an awesome fitness room & the equipment worked!! (alot of times it is broke down). The price was very reasonable. Don't let me forget to mention the breakfast they put out was excellent too!! They also have a nice bar. The outside surrounding area of the motel is beautiful with a pond and trails, etc.. The staff was super friendly, nice & accomodating to us. The room we were in was so cozy that it seemed like a room at home, not a motel . We will definitely be staying here every time we are in the Black River Falls area. We hope this review will help others who are traveling. You don't find a motel like this & all it offers very often. Mike & Yvonne
