Stout's Lodge has been a mainstay for our family's summer vacation for the past 10 years. The rustic enchantment of this idyllic island welcomes us back every year.

Stout's Island Lodge is a vintage Adirondak style "camp" that reminded me of vacationing upstate New York as a child-- rustic and gorgeous. My room in Allison's Cottage had a view of the treetops and the lake. Evenings always included a fire in the lodge's fieldstone fireplace and fabulous dinners with a northwoods theme. The desserts are to die for. No television or noise. Lots of canoes, kayaks, paddleboats, croquet on the lawn, and footpaths for walking. I spent the weekend in a haze of happiness and peace. When the time came to leave, it wasn't easy. I will be returning every summer.

I spent three nights at Stout's Lodge, and although I had a good time, I wasn't impressed. I had read a glowing article about the lodge in Minnesota Monthy, and it inspired me to plan a trip there. Although the lodge is very beautiful, it is not in the best condition. The bathroom in our room was really in bad shape, and the game room was falling apart. In fact, the whole boathouse looked like it was about to fall over into the water. The breakfast was stale muffins and cold cereal. The staff was indifferent. I would have stayed again if it was $80-100/night, but I paid $200/night and did not feel like it was worth that.

Have made several trips to The Island of Happy Day's over the last several years and can't wait to return. Each experience has been Awesome! The people. The food. The accomodations. And have recommended it to others, all of whom have enjoyed their experiences. It's an opportunity that shouldn't be missed!
